We got here after driving through winding 108 highway (beautiful scenery, by the way) when it was almost dark, so we felt lucky to find this place because although it is not new at all, we felt warmly welcomed and had a good rest. Bobbi Jo, at the reception, was very friendly and nice. She assigned us room 219 which is on the back of the building, so it was really quiet (the front of the building faces highway 49). And although -as said- the facility is not new, the room was comfortable, decent, well equipped and clean (we paid 53$). This place also has an outdoor pool and a computer for guests in the lobby which is the place where they serve the breakfast. However it is true that there are no tables or chairs where to eat it, so you either eat it there while standing or you take it to the room.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the back because it will be quieter.

Clean, old rooms. We had asked for a "superior" room, as it was the only kind of room accomodating 5 people (enough space for an extra bed). The room we got did NOT have the extra bed, (it wouldn't have fitted anyway) and it was not the room category we had paid for.
The next room we got was larger, and my husband had to roll in the extra bed himself ! Many rooms in the same category were not occupied, but she still put us in the one right on the main street side. And it is a busy, noisy street.
Breakfast is basic, but OK.

For the past several years, I've stayed at the Sonora property while judging the area's photo contest/exhibit. Each time they have us stay here right on Washington Street.

Check in was easy and the rooms are all non-smoking, so there's no stench. There's even a spa and a pool on site.

The rooms are large and beds ample. The beds are king size so you won't overflow like I usually do in many other hotels. The bathrooms are large and clean. When you turn on the heater, you don't here a thing, but you are as comfortable as can be.

If you want a light breakfast, it's included, the usual cereal and mike, toast, juice and coffee. Want a little more? You can walk downtown or the staff will direct you to other local coffee houses.

The only ding I can find is that the rooms aren't too sound proof and you can hear the TV next door and the traffic going by, but it's not too bad for the rooms in the front. That's a minor nit in the overall experience.

Room Tip: Get a room in the back where there's less noise from the traffic.

I am not sure which room you might have stayed in. Our housekeepers have excellent reviews and a great work ethic. Could you give me more information about your stay?

Reception staff were really nice. The room was warm, very clean & comfortable. OK, you have to collect breakfast to take to your room but it was a very good price to pay for the room & everything else made up for it. Parking & room access was very good. It's an excellent location en route to Yosemite & to see the Gold rush areas. It had a nice deep & longer bath than usual & lashings of hot water

Room Tip: one at the back if you want to be quieter

An average motel room but what made place better than average was central location with supplied map showing 20 local restaurants within walking distance plus fridge to chill drinks and free local calls without hassle of supplying credit card details. Stayed as part of organised tour.

This hotel is a little dated, the rooms could definitely do with an upgrade, the airconditioner unit was old and noisy, the bathroom also very dated but very roomy which made a change from some of the hotels we have encountered on a two month tour of Canada and USA. The reception area was so friendly and made us feel very welcome. The morning continental breakfast was very adequate. We were there on a Saturday night and between 5-8pm the town comes alive. Its called the Art night. All the shops have entertainers e.g. barbershop quartet and country and western singers along with snacks and wine to entertain the shoppers. This happens every second Saturday night so try and get there on the right Saturday night. The town itself was just lovely it was so great to see a USA little town which had such a heart. Its only small but the enterprise of the town is outstanding. Seeing all the thank you banners in the town to thank the firefighters that saved the town from the fire at Yosemite was heart wrenching. What a lovely touch. We went to an excellent restaurant in the town, had a huge meal for a small price and the friendliest waitress. In fact every shop we went into had the most friendly staff which was great to experience small town USA. So while the hotel is dated the town it just great. You could hear the traffic noise but there was not a huge amount of traffic going through.
