I have little to add. The hotel was lovely - the room, the charming decor, the very well-presented and tasty breakfast, the nice pool. We very much enjoyed our stay.

The only thing that you need to be aware of is if you have bad knees or have accessibility issues. Unless you have a room at the "ground level," most rooms are accessed by going up and down stair cases. The building itself is set against a hill, so there are slopes to negotiate. We have no such issues and I find it a good way to exercise.

We look forward to future stays here.

Room Tip: We had a 2-bedded room in the back, so there was no noise issue.

This hotel was recommended by a family member who often come to hotel when visiting Sonora!
My husband, myself and our 2 young children (ages 3 & 4) spent the last weekend of June 2013 here as we had a wedding to attend in the next building. We had a great time at this hotel! We stayed in room 17, the closest room to the pool and to the parlor! The service from start to finish was absolutely great! Easy check-in and easy to check-out! Nothing to it.
The check-in time is at 2pm, while checking out is at 12 noon.
Breakfast in the parlor was superb and filled with wonderful breakfast goodies! The waffles are the best!
We are trying to make this an annual family trip!

Room Tip: Book in advance! This hotel books quickly especially if there are events!!!!

Right in town with lovely historic rooms. The pool is great with attractive stonework. Breakfast is fresh cooked with coffee cakes, muffins and waffles. There is one egg dish and plenty of oranges, apples, bananas and strawberries. Whipped cream for the strawberries and waffles was a treat. Sit in the pretty breakfast room or outdoors by the pool. Quaint historic touches all over the place.

We take a family road trip up to the Mother Lode at least once a year, and wouldn't think of staying anywhere but here. The Gunn House is kind of like a hybrid B&B/motel, combining the best features of both. Rooms are furnished with 19th-century antiques and teddy bears on each of the beds, but there's also a nice swimming pool, too (a must-have in the often sweltering Gold Country summer). It's also housed in the oldest building in Sonora, an early 1850s adobe, so it's got plenty of Gold Rush cred.

As of our last stay this past week, they've done some upgrades to the place. Our room (one that we usually try to stay in) had been repainted and spruced up, and there was a new flat-screen TV mounted to the wall.

As many other reviewers have noted, the breakfast is outstanding, with a huge selection of homemade coffee cakes and breads, and an egg-and-cheese casserole that sometimes includes ham, sausage, and/or various veggies. Top that off with several kinds of cereal and waffles made to order. It's way better than the standard packaged-sweet-roll-and-coffee motel breakfast, and a perfect way to fuel up before heading out on our adventures.

Sonora's kind of the "Big City" for this area. There's not a lot to do in Sonora itself, but it has plenty of dining and shopping options, and it's a convenient home base for exploring the area. Both Columbia State Historic Park and Railtown 1897 are about a five-minute drive away.

Room Tip: The Gunn House is located right on Sonora's main drag, so if you want a quieter experience, ask...

We had prebooked a one night stay at the Gunn House to break up a drive from Lee Vining to San Francisco. We had read good reviews on Tripadvisor, and we were not disappointed at all in our choice. The Gunn House is on the main street in Sonora, close to restaurants, shops etc, and is easy to find. On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who confirmed our room was ready. We had booked a Deluxe Queen room, and following advice from other reviewers, we had requested a room at the back as they are quieter. The check in process was completed quickly, and we were given some good recommendations on where to eat that night. We were shown to our room, which was on the top floor, and at the back as we had requested, smashing!

The room was a lovely size, with a separate bathroom with a bath and shower and plenty of wardrobe space. It was very clean, tastefully furnished and with enough pillows to sleep an army. We had no complaints over the room at all.

There are a number of things about the Gunn House that we really liked, in addition to the room. Firstly there is a lovely pool at the back, which we took advantage of for a couple of hours after our day's drive. There were plenty of loungers and chairs and there were free towels available. Very relaxing. Secondly, right outside our room, as there were outside other rooms on our floor, there were two nice relaxing wicker seats and a small table, overlooking the pool. This is a good touch and again we took advantage of them. Thirdly there is free parking at the back of the hotel, with your car in view from outside your room. Just a point to note, as you approach the Gunn House from the main road there is a single space at the front where you could park just to check in. I would suggest don't use that, just go direct to the main park at the back. It's very close to the reception area, you can cut through the pool area, and you do not have to go back out onto the busy main road to then go up a steep hill to the main car park. It's easier. Also, I would not use the other car park that is just past the hotel if you approach with the hotel on your left. It is a longer more awkward way round from there to the rooms. Just a tip.

Lastly, and probably most importantly, all the staff at the Gunn House were really friendly. We were made to feel very welcome by everyone, in particular the young lady serving breakfast, I'm sorry I don't remember your name, was lovely. Very friendly, chatty and extremely helpful. The breakfast was great, with lots of choice and served in a really nice large airy room. We had a nice peaceful relaxing night's sleep in a very comfortable room. The WIFI worked too. The hotel is an old building, quirky with lots of nooks and crannies but it is well maintained and decorated just right.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Gunn House, thanks very much, and would recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back, it's quieter, use the car park at the back

We looked for A hotel in Sonora on our way to Yosemite. We found this hotel, and was surprised to find a place like this by chance. We would therefore like to share our experience with other Tripadvisor users. The entre hotel had an aura of history, as everything was kept in the old style, but with todays expectation of standard given a price under 100$. We even got a full breakfast with more offering than the usual standard in that class of hotel.
The renson for not awarding the highest score is a missing refrigiator. Also when booking your room, remember to ask for the back side, as there is some noise from the street.

Room Tip: Ask for the back side by the pool, to get a quiet room

Want to experience something besides your average chain hotel? This is the place for you!
Beautiful rooms, comfy beds, big well stocked bathrooms, immaculate pool, homemade breakfast, accommodating staff....this place has it all. Nice stop overnight before heading into Yosemite.
Celebrating mother Mary's 75th! Thanks Gunn house for a memorable time!

Room Tip: We stayed in the front, I was worried about the traffic noise but that was not a problem.
