Soups, salads, sandwiches, cheeses, breads, beer & wine, coffee, tea, pastries.
I stop for lunch or sometimes just coffee/tea and a pastry at Nicole's whenever I'm in So. Pasadena, which is often. The pastries are all made there and are nonpareil (without equal), all of them. My particular favorites are the lemon tart and the flourless chocolate cake (let it come to room temp, and it melts in your mouth!). They bring the croissant in from another top notch bakery (get there early if you want the chocolate chip because it sells out first thing.) They have at least two homemade soups daily, always at least one vegetarian, and they are delicious! The menu has plenty of vegetarian selections, and again, all of the menu items are made to order in their kitchen. The menu is very reasonably priced.
The cafe has a small, slightly crowded, seating area of tables for two (can push two together for four people if needed) inside, along with a long counter seating area against the long window where you can sit and look out over the patio. The little gourmet market on the other half of the cafe sells imported foods and the refrigerated section has a huge selection of cheeses and pates. There is a lovely outdoor patio on the street with umbrellas, trees and plants.
It is owned and managed by Nicole, a lovely French woman, who is there everyday. Her staff are always friendly and helpful. Quite a number of French people come to this cafe, and it's lovely to hear that beautiful language being spoken at the tables, adding to the ambience! So if you're coming for a visit to the Pasadena area or just driving through, I highly recommend a visit to Nicole's for brunch/lunch, coffee/tea and pastry, or wine and cheese!
