Soups, salads, sandwiches, cheeses, breads, beer & wine, coffee, tea, pastries.

I stop for lunch or sometimes just coffee/tea and a pastry at Nicole's whenever I'm in So. Pasadena, which is often. The pastries are all made there and are nonpareil (without equal), all of them. My particular favorites are the lemon tart and the flourless chocolate cake (let it come to room temp, and it melts in your mouth!). They bring the croissant in from another top notch bakery (get there early if you want the chocolate chip because it sells out first thing.) They have at least two homemade soups daily, always at least one vegetarian, and they are delicious! The menu has plenty of vegetarian selections, and again, all of the menu items are made to order in their kitchen. The menu is very reasonably priced.

The cafe has a small, slightly crowded, seating area of tables for two (can push two together for four people if needed) inside, along with a long counter seating area against the long window where you can sit and look out over the patio. The little gourmet market on the other half of the cafe sells imported foods and the refrigerated section has a huge selection of cheeses and pates. There is a lovely outdoor patio on the street with umbrellas, trees and plants.

It is owned and managed by Nicole, a lovely French woman, who is there everyday. Her staff are always friendly and helpful. Quite a number of French people come to this cafe, and it's lovely to hear that beautiful language being spoken at the tables, adding to the ambience! So if you're coming for a visit to the Pasadena area or just driving through, I highly recommend a visit to Nicole's for brunch/lunch, coffee/tea and pastry, or wine and cheese!

This place is awesome. Not only a restaurant but also a french market. Its right next to train station and awesome on thursdays evening, farmers market day. The sanduiches and salads are authentic french. The soups are so good too. I love to buy cheeses and the frozen dinners to go. everythins is just awesome and it is reasonably priced as well. Nicole the owner is a darling lady and the staff is great.

Been going to Nicole's for years. Everything on the menu is delicious - the duck salad is my particular favorite. This is also a great resource for oils, vinegar, all sorts of beans, prepared foods and baking supplies (like prepared tartlet shells). The chocolate mousse cup is fabulous.

I would have given this place 4 stars not too long ago, but I give it 3 stars now. Selection of cheese is not as wide and the menu for eat-in dining has been pared down. I buy cheeses here for entertaining and they always get compliments, though. Common question: "Where did you get this?" So it gets 4 stars for food, 4 stars for value (although it can add up), and is typical in every other way. There are some harder-to-find items for sale here. It's worth a stop if you are in the area and it's worth coming from out of the area if you want cheese and don't want to do the Bristol Farms/Whole Foods things.
