“Nice relaxing place for coffee and pastry”

The Bean Scene is a nice relaxing place to spend some time on Murphy Street. It's good for both adults and children and my husband and I enjoyed coming here with our 3 little grandchildren---4 and under. They liked the eggs, bacon, and bagel plate---one plate was enough for all 3, and we enjoyed the coffee and pastries. The apple pastries are very good as are the raspberry squares. I wouldn't recommend the scones. Coffee may not be the best I've ever had, but I like that this place is not one of the big chains and definitely like the location. People behind the counter were very helpful.
Be prepared for a long line as this place is very popular.

It's amazing how everybusiness has one review that has to be so extreme. The previous review (what an embarrassment) is an example of someone with nothing constructive to say. I have gone to the Bean scene many times. As with any business, there are some visits which are better than other but what is consistent is the care and genuine appreciation the team has for their clients. This place far exceeds the Big 2 (peet's and starbucks). Don't let one persons nasty review ruin your experience. Cheers

The coffee is burned, the pastries are stale, the service slow, and the inside of the shop is old--and not in a "cool coffee shop" way--in a "needs to be remodeled now" type of way. If these weren't enough drawbacks for you, it's likely that if you're on Murphy and looking to get a cup of coffee, The Bean Scene will be closed. Their hours, although posted, are not accurate. They close early on weekends 5 or 6PM, which means that by the time you're done with dinner at any of the restaurants on the block, they are already closed. I've grown up in Sunnyvale, and The Bean Scene is an institution. To this day, I have no idea how it stays open. It's always either empty or closed. Honestly, even a Starbucks would be an improvement.
