“Gold Country Charm”
Reviewed 2 March 2013

Peaceful, extremely relaxing, romantic, and the grounds are beautiful and give each of the cottages there own bit of privacy. I believe this is the oldest operating B & B in California. We stay here at least once a year and we live less than 25 miles away. No chrome and glitter here, just good ole country comfort. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and good cooks too. Breakfast is always unbelievable. One of our 2 best weekend getaways. Plenty of wine tasting nearby, one of our favorite things, and a wonderful restaurant just down the street at Susan's Place. Oh yea, accross the street from Susan's Place is probably the best Pizza I've ever had at the Pizza Place. If you want to relax and unwind with a good bottle of wine, this is the spot for you.

Room Tip: all of the cottages are nice, very unique. try the hanging beds.

It just lacks a few of those fabulous B&B qualities (though if you've seen the Portlandia B&B skit this would be a phenomenal B&B). The grounds are beautifully manicured, but one the inside the rooms are a little stale. Our bathroom was gorgeous, beautifully refreshed, but the rest of the room is very retro. If you are looking for nostalgia, say, grandma's house circa 1960 this will suit your fancy. Another oddity (that I thought would suit my fancy) is the bed which hangs suspended from the ceiling by chains. No, not weird S&M chains, just nice, normal, small-town chains. I thought it was a neat quirk until I hopped aboard and nearly lost my lunch, and that was before imbibing the local wines. Thankfully, you can drop the bed down onto solid ground if you so choose. Breakfast was nothing fancy or even very impressive. You sit family style with other guests and pass around a fairly basic, nondescript plate of eggs, sausage and hot cakes. Though I adore the town of Sutter Creek, I wasn't head-over-heels for this inn. It wasn't a bad place to stay, just not my style.

Charm, romantic, and quiet- this place is a great get-away for those looking for a place to stay while enjoying one of California's best wine regions. The breakfasts are hearty, and a superb way to start the day for some fun touring. We love the rooms and gardens! Enjoy!

We enjoyed our stay at Sutter Creek Inn. The room was beautifully done and I loved the swinging bed. Getting there to enjoy fall, coming back to the room to sit by a fire and relax was a highlight!

The grounds are beautiful as well and the staff very friendly and helpful.

Loved the little town of Sutter Creek, definitely coming back.

Thanks so much for providing us with a great weekend.

As we arrived into town,, right there in the middle of Town was the Sutter Creek inn,.. What lovely grounds and the people were just great and helpful. The Inn was an easy walk to just about any place in town you wanted to stroll to. The room was large, Clean and very unique with a real brick fireplace with the wood already stack in the flireplace just waiting for me to complete this warm cozy setting. Great towels!! What was really neat was the hanging bed, Wow! being rocked to sleep how comfortable! Now Coffee was ready early with a short walk through the garden into the kitchen area wherethe folks were preparing this great Homestyle Breakfast and they were friendly even though they were busy preparing a fresh breakfast. Then a little bell rang to signal " come and get it" and we all sat down family style and not only had wonderful food, we had a great visit with other " Travelers" to Sutter Creek! we did meet the Owners, Linsay and David, Sister and Brother who provided a bit of History on the Inn and the Town. They both put a lot of heart into making the Sutter Creek Inn a perfect setting!
Sooo,,, what can I say,.. Except,.. I'll be back and I strongly reccommend you make it a point to plan a visit to Sutter Creek!.

When you really want to get away from it all, the answer may be closer than you think. Sutter Creek is a small, charming town an easy drive from the Bay Area (but worth it too if you live farther out). The Sutter Creek Inn is right in town, yet their ample grounds make you feel a bit more removed. There is only quiet at night as you settle into time-softened sheets and quilted spreads. The amenities are all that one wants in a hotel, yet they also offer small surprises of antique treasures, fireplaces (in most), windows that really open, and books to read if you forgot yours. The breakfasts are legendary and few miss them. Even for me (and I'm not a breakfast person and allergic to eggs), I found more than enough to enjoy. They even provide lemonade and cookies in the afternoon, in case you want to settle down in the large living room or bask in a two-person hammock. And then, steps away are restaurants, stores, antique shops and more. After walking the entire town, this IS the place to stay.

Room Tip: Make sure you view the rooms on the well-designed web site. If you care about certain things, like a...

We stayed at the inn with two other couples for three nights in September. It was a perfect base camp for exploring the beautiful and interesting area, and three nights were not too many. Our room, The Tool Shed, was spacious and lovely with a separate sitting area and private, nicely furnished patio that allowed us to gather and debrief each day. The grounds of the inn are beautiful with many nooks for sitting and socializing, or just vegging-out. Breakfast was a real treat with beautiful fresh fruit and a different, delicious main course each day. We particularly appreciated a separately brewed pot of "Strong Coffee" in addition to the usual less-strong coffee and hot water for tea. We couldn't recommend The Sutter Creek Inn more highly. We plan on returning for further exploration of the area's many gorgeous, interesting historical sites and great wineries.
