“good place to rent a kayak”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 April 2012

Andy & his crew are very knowledgeable & helpful. They know their kayaks. They also provide tours if you're not comfortable slapping one on your roof and just taking off.
They also have a stand in sand harbor if you're on the east shore.

“Kayak fun on the Lake - easy to do”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2011

We rented a tandem kayak for half a day (4 hours) for $74.00. That included life vests and a dry bag. All the folks involved were very helpful, friendly, easy to talk to, and were very efficient. You have to go to the shop first, pay, and then take your receipt down to the pier (it is really easy to find). At first I thought maybe I had to be an experienced kayaker, but then I saw the kayaks they rent, and anyone can do it (they also rent the other ones too where you are strapped in if you are an experienced kayaker). The ones for us regular folks are kinda like canoes. At the pier, the staff person there showed us how to row (2 minute lesson) and with a dry bag to put all our valuables, and life vests on, we got in and started rowing. We also had brought a snack to eat when we docked at Sunnyside Marina beach (very small narrow peably beach). Be sure to put your sunscreen on thoroughly before you get in the boat because you will get wet on your legs and then it is hard to apply. It was so beautiful on the lake, that if you are in Tahoe, you simply have to do this. You won't regret it!

“Good value, friendly staff, beautiful scenery”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 September 2010

We turned up in mid afternoon of the labour day weekend without a booking.

The staff were friendly and helpful.

We had a great afternoon on the water.

The only bad thing was the time it took to rent a kayak. We have rented kakyaks all over the world on our travels.
We turned up with cash, ID and no valuables or bags.
Usually, you rent a kayak, provide your ID and pay at the time of rental hire.
Here, we had to go back to the hotel safe for our credit card so they could take a deposit for "the thousands of dollars" of equipment they were hiring to us. We are water babies and know that rental kayaks, PFDs, paddles are subjected to an awful lot of use and not worth thousands of dollars in the state that they were provided to us.
We would have been ok with this, if in their advertisment or leaflet next to the hire rates, it stated that a deposit was required.

We walked down to the water, you enter the kayak from the jetty. We had to go back to the store to pay afterwards. It was a little cumbersome to add on to a lovely relaxed afternoon. Paying upfront would have been much better, especially as the guys at the water, tear the deposit receipt.
