The Granlibakken Lodge is very quaint and private. It feels like camping in the forest of the Sierra Nevada's while being located right in the small town of Tahoe City. It's the best place to go to relax, play tennis, hike the trails, experience the rope concourse high up in the pine trees or just go to the beach. We rented a boat at Tahoe and had the best day of our lives.

From the moment we arrived we were really impressed with the gracious staff and beautiful grounds and rooms at the Granilbakken. We were there for a weekend get away with my in-laws from Spain with my toddler son. We were having a great time and for the second night I had confirmed a babysitter for us to have a night out to dinner. When she didn't show up I panicked and called the front desk wondering if they had another suggestion. Diego at the front desk quickly problem solved and confirmed a lovely young woman who worked at the hotel, Laura Gomez was available. Five minutes later she showed up at our door smiling and won our son over instantly. Laura completely put me and our family at ease. She texted pictures and messages every half hour of our happy then sleeping little one.

I can't say enough about how wonderful Laura Gomez, Diego and the rest of the staff are at the Granilbakken. We had a fabulous time and will definitely be back. p.s. the included buffet breakfast is superb!!

Room Tip: If you can get a room close to the pool and buffet breakfast.

I was not aware that all the units were individually owned and run by an HOA which is why each unit is different. Unfortunately, our room although large came with a Queen- sized Murphy bed which is not very comfortable and had to be pulled down every night. The room was so crowded with furniture including a dining table and chairs, sofa, two armchairs and a stone fireplace that it was hard to navigate. There was a kitchenette and tiny outdated bathroom. As we were there for a conference of 142 participants in Spring, we didn't use the fireplace. The meals for the conference were very good with many buffet-style choices. I had to request that our room be cleaned as only the towels were changed. Some of the old fashioned blinds were broken and the carpet was not vacuumed during our 5 night stay. The setting was beautiful and we spent little time in the room. The pool was large and heated. Only breakfast is served to non-conference attendees.

Room Tip: Preview the room before you select it as they are all different.

I stayed there in early June.
Good things
* quietest places I have ever been
* very friendly, helpful staff
* pretty, with lots of trees and nature
* high quality comfortable beds
* good food.
less good
* not very handicapped accessible. The showers do not have hand bars to help you in and out.
* the windows only have cheap venetian blinds on them so you are definitely getting up at sun rise, since they don't really block the light.
* not on the lake
* carpets are old and of low quality

We appreciate you taking the time to write a review. We are pleased that you found our grounds peaceful and our staff accommodating. We are currently working with all of our homeowners to upgrade our rooms, including our carpeting. We have replaced almost all of the carpet in the common areas and hope to finish this process by the fall. Also since we are a homeowner property we do not have control of the handicap accessibility for all of the rooms. However, there are rooms that are handicap friendly. Please let us know next time you are visiting and we will be more than happy to place you in one of these rooms. Thank you so much for your feedback; we really appreciate your comments.

It is a superior place to stay, especially if you travel by a car, because the resort is placed rather far from the city of Tahoe. However, if you are seeking for peace and quietness, this is the exact place. Very supportive staff, clean and cozy rooms, very tasty food and drinks! They have a sauna and spa. What is very important in a long journey is laundry, and they do have it!

Room Tip: Use the chance to stay at Granlibakken and enjoy their hospitality

Thank you for your lovely comments. We are only a mile away from Tahoe City actually, although we can understand how it may feel that we are a little farther away since our 74 acre valley is so peaceful and serene. We are very happy that you enjoyed our delicious food, drinks, sauna and spa. We hope that you can come back and visit soon! Please contact us to help you plan your next trip.

Oh my gosh..."resort"...really? I assume things are different here in winter but today it is pretty grim.

We came from the other side of the lake to attend a session at the "treetop adventure park" which is featured on the granlibakken website. It is quite popular and typically sells out so there is a continuous flow of people. We planned to arrive early in order to grab lunch at the "resort" beforehand.

It took us a while due to poor signage to find the main lobby or whatever you want to call it...the place looks more like a condo complex to me. When we arrived there was nobody there to greet us so we spent 15 minutes or so wandering cavernous (and quite dated) dark rooms and lobbies in search of any type of refreshment...and found nothing.

We finally located a front desk attendant who told us there was nothing to eat there - at all. "We don't really have a restaurant." Yikes. "Resort"??!

No services here that I could find...and a dated and very unappealing building. I cannot imagine staying here...I guess you have to haul off premises for every meal and refreshment.

We appreciate your comments. May and early June are somewhat in between seasons and we apologize that you did not experience Granlibakken in full swing. We serve our delicious, hearty buffet breakfast every morning, which is included in our room rate. Unfortunately, you just missed the opening of the Gran Spot which serves specialty coffee drinks, salads, sandwiches, pastries, spirits and more. The Gran Spot hours will be 8AM - 9PM June 13th to September 15th. In the winter we have a Mexican Cafe at our Ski Hill open during the day and our Cedar House Pub open on weekend evenings. Also we value your feedback about the signage around our property, and we are currently working to fix this issue. We would love to have you back and show you everything that Granlibakken has to offer. Please contact me at hotelmanager@granlibakken.com and I would be more than happy to assist you in planning your vacation to Lake Tahoe.

This is the third year we've rented the Forest Lodge and the Aspen Room for our family reunion. We have 22 relatives, ranging from 1 year to 91. Everyone finds plenty to do from the Ropes course, to swimming and hot tubbing to biking to walks into town. We take full advantage of the BBQ grill on the deck and love have the kitchen facilities and lots of room for visiting and working jigsaw puzzles. There's plenty of privacy since each bedroom has its own bath and then lots of public spaces to meet and chat.
