We enjoyed our stay at this resort. Though we were not part of the timeshare we were not treated as second class citizens. The staff were great and the resort offered everything imaginable from direct access to a private beach, barbeques with covered dining, a basketball court, horseshoes, free movie rentals and more.

Room Tip: 101 and 201 are closest to the busy road. Look for rooms higher in number to reduce traffic noise.

The location of this property is ideal. There is a huge, sandy beach that is about a 10 minute walk from end to end. The property is about a 40 minute walk to Kings Beach (most of it on the beach, but about 10 minutes from Tahoe Vista Recreation Area to Moon Dunes beach along the road).
The resort offers many outdoor amenities ... big grassy area, sand volleyball court, bocce court, basketball court, outdoor bbq area, tables ... All would be great but there are so many geese droppings the areas are pretty much unusable. They really should do a daily clean-up/sweep of the area! There are two pools. The one on the office side has seen better days. The pool across the street is nicer, but the pool decking area is rocky. They are planning on bringing the hot tub down in ground. There is also a sauna. Both the hot tub and the sauna are on the office side.
There is a laundry facility upstairs. Two washers, one broken. Four dryers, two broken. They plan to update their laundry facilities and move them downstairs.
The units are run down. They really need to upgrade. We stayed in a lower level unit. Shag carpet was filthy. Screen door had tears and no handle. Dishwasher sounded like you were sitting in your car going through a car wash. The bed was pretty comfortable but the sofa bed couch was not. (Although I have never known any sofa beds to be comfortable.) They do offer extra padding in the office for the sofa bed, but that was pretty filthy too. (My son said he was picking off a bunch of hair from it - GROSS!) The kitchen was equipped with all that you might need. Four burner electric stove but no oven. (There is an oven you can use in the office.)
The price for this place is considerably cheaper than some other places we have stayed at, so you need to decide if the location is worth the outdated accommodations. If you decide to stay here, some things that you may want to bring: Folding table for outdoor patio, extra outdoor chairs, blow up mattress (so you don't have to sleep on the sofa bed). For the kitchen, bring aluminum foil, aluminum tins (to bring stuff to and from the BBQ), coffee mugs (unless you like drinking out of tiny tea cups), cooking pans (they have some but they were awful), cutting board (they have one but its tiny), extra dishes or paper plates (they have a set of four, so bring extra if you don't want to do dishes or run the dishwasher after every meal), dish towels (they give you two but we could have used more), disinfectant wipes to wipe down counters, knives (cutting and serrated), saran wrap, tongs and tupper ware.
I really love the location of this place, but the outdated accommodations and all the geese droppings all over the outdoor facilities are a huge turn off.

Room Tip: I liked having a lower level unit for quick access in and out. The upper units offer more privacy.

This resort has the best beach--very shallow and warm water. It is kid friendly and safe, as the kids have to walk over 100 yards out to have the water past their belly button. The outdoor amenities are great--basketball, sand volleyball, Boccie ball, horseshoes, etc. Kayaks and stand-up paddle boards can be rented right on the beach. There are movies and games to borrow at the office. This is such a fun family place. However, the units are older and well worn. The cabin units are great, but many windows don't open. The lanai units have a great view, but the back bedrooms get stuffy, as there are no windows (only a door, and that's a little awkward to leave open for air, as people walk by). Overall, I love this place, but I'm not expecting the Hilton. It is what it is, and it is fun!

Room Tip: The lanai units all face the lake with a great view, but can get hot in warm weather. The mountainsi...

I stayed at the Tahoe Sands for 5 nights in an upstairs studio. The resort is older and in need of upgrades. I gave it four stars mainly due to the property location. The resort had a Murphy bed that wasn't very comfy but I've slept on worse. Like I said it needs update but was clean and had everything I needed, toaster, hot plate, cups, utensils, BBQs on the property. They were doing some renovations outside and just updated one of their cabins which was very nice. If u want an inexpensive place that is right on the lake then this is your place. There was plenty of sand and little pool too. The place was not too crowded and they had some activities to keep u busy. There is a grocery store down the street about 1/4 mile. I will definitely return here next summer but this time with the kids.

You can't get better for the location - right on the lake with a super beach. You can tell that this timeshare resort is very family oriented and doing what they can to spruce it up here and there. However, they need to bite the bullet and upgrade the floors to either a more industrial type of carpeting, slate stone, or engineered wood planks. Our one bedroom upstairs unit had carpeting that was so dirty, our socks were black. We eventually put beach towels down on the trough areas. It was such a contrast because the bathroom was absolutely spotless - for such an older property, the bathroom was definitely a 1980's or 90's job, and yet it was extremely clean. 5 starts to the properties' cleaning staff! The entry way and small kitchen area had ceramic tile and even that had clean grout...so why the disgusting carpet ---- it couldn't cost more than $400 for that unit to replace it. I definitely wouldn't want a baby crawling on it. With the nature of the beach and the duck poop, if I were property management I would make a huge effort to get guests to take their shoes off at the entry - put up signs, put a shoe tray. Most guests will comply. Okay, past the carpet, the unit is darling. Great veranda to look at the lake. They need some big trees though on both sides of the long lawn to help shade the units on both east and west side from the sun either rising or setting. There is great dark out curtains, however, with no A/C in these units, you have to leave the windows open. I don't think this is an issue with the units across the busy Lake Tahoe Blvd on the other side of the street. The bed in the one bedroom unit is a real bed, and very comfortable. The linens are terrific with the white duvet cover and a foot spread at end - that's updated. Old type of TV in the living room - yet the couch/chair and tables were updated. Pictures on the wall - looked updated but odd that they were a picture of canoes in Asia and a tropical flower vs. pictures of Tahoe. Idea: Have a contest of the owners for the best Tahoe pictures and use those. Bring in Tahoe feel to the units.

Room Tip: Upstairs if you're in the two story unit --- the view is the best and you won't have noise o...

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review and share your experience. I am sorry to hear that you experienced a significant issue with your carpet. Carpets are replaced often and deep cleans are done numerous times a year, however, with the non-stop summer use we struggle to keep things to the level we strive for this time of year. I will have our team look into your unit and address the carpets right away. We are moving forward as we replace flooring with hardwood to avoid this issue moving forward. We are also working on drawing upon the charm that is the Tahoe Sands Resort with more art and furnishings that bring each guest a feel of Tahoe. Your suggestions and feedback are appreciated and we hope to see you again soon with more improvements to make your stay even better than the last!

The property is unique because of its location, beach access, and solitude. There are upgrades to the property each year, and the units are clean. We love both the winter and summer fun. Really close to Northstar, which has winter and summer activities too. Its also close to Incline Village and the Hyatt casino. There are great places to eat close by and a grocery store less then 5 minutes away. In the summer they have a cute ice crème shop within walking distance with a great lawn area to enjoy and relax. The lake is so beautiful at sunrise and sunset, so if you love to take pictures this is the place!!

Perfect beach and lake access. Huge grassy play area. Lots of fun facilities, basketball, bocci-ball horseshoes, volley-ball table-tennis kayaks, pool, hot tub, sauna. Nice offerings at the ofiice, ice-cream, arts, popcorn, lemonade, wine and cheese. Lots of recent upgrades to meet ADA requirements. Accessible fire-pit, paved walks to a center canopy, propane fired grills. Helpful and friendly staff. Some units are modern, others not so but still clean and functional. Internet poor in both signal strength coverage and capacity. Excellent family resort!
