“A great Place to Stay in North Lake Tahoe”
Reviewed 30 July 2009

We have gone back to Rustic Cottages for 5 years now,,, or is it 6,,,
Anyway, the place is super clean. Now the cottages are on the small size, but part of the experience. It i snot a luxury hotel, but they quaint cottages, many with Kitchens, you get a waffle and muffin breakfast, hot coffee at 6am! The brownies at 5pm are worth a schedule change to be there!

You get a full bath and full TV. They also have a VCR/DVD in each room and they have many movies to loan.

A public beach is cross the street,,, this is a great vacation stop. Never went in winter for skining but can only imagine it is great too,,, Worth the stay here.

Tripadvisor reviews really steered us right on this one. After a disastrous single night at the River Ranch Lodge resort, we searched Tripadvisor and discovered Rustic Cottages. It's clear to us why they got high ratings from other reviewers. We had a great stay.

The place is well run and SUPER CLEAN. Our cottage (Oregon) was cozy with good beds, kitchenette, separate bedroom and living room. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The grounds were well maintained. The place is right across from the beach, and down the street from the restaurants in Kings Beach. They accept pets in some cottages.

Fresh waffles, fresh coffee in the morning.

Downsides: a little expensive, but then it appears most places are in Tahoe. Watch out for the cottages right near hwy 28... we were going to stay in one, but the road noise was too loud.

I stayed here with my husband for 2 nights. We had a very cute old style little cottage. As the name suggests, the cottages are rustic, homey and old fashioned. If you like modern glass-and-chrome decor this is probably not the place for you. Our cottage was small - but we knew that when we booked and we were out all day so it was not a problem.

The room was clean, comfortable, the bathroom was fine, and we had a little kitchenette that was clean with all appliances in good condition.

The staff were friendly and there was a nice help-yourself breakfast served in the lodge in the mornings.

The cottages are set amongst tall trees and there is a really nice feel about the set-up of this place. Plus its just a walk over the road (10 seconds) to lake views. The area is pretty quiet but still in close proximity to local facilities.

I would definitely stay here again; for the price we paid it was a bargain.

This was our 3rd year for a family reunion at Tahoe Vista. Everyone-young, old, and the dog loved it for the communal green which, along with the pool, became our gathering places. The morning breakfast in the lodge allowed the early risers and late risers to enjoy the great waffles and the snacks kept everyone happy. The grounds provided space for volleyball and games and the central local allowed for folks to pursue their preferred activities.

We found Rustic Cottages online and decided to stay there for three reasons: 1) it’s pet friendly, 2) the price was reasonable, and 3) it got excellent reviews.

It was our first hotel stay with the dogs, and I had no idea what to expect. I was relieved to find that the room didn't smell like dog - there was actually no sign that dogs had been there, which made me feel proud of the other responsible doggy parents. However, besides not smelling like a dog kennel, I wasn't extremely impressed. Maybe my expectations were too high because of all of the raving reviews I had read by other guests.

It was a decent enough place for the price; it looked clean enough, the sheets were soft and comfy, it stayed nice and warm despite the single digit temps outside, and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook a light dinner. It just didn't give me that, cozy, comfortable, relaxed feeling I was expecting from a “Rustic Cottage” (I guess I should have looked up “rustic” in the dictionary before I booked it). Maybe it was the set-up; we had the cabin with the separate bedroom and the only places to sit in the kitchen / living area were cold hard wrought iron chairs or a too-bouncy creaky day bed that sank in the middle. Maybe it was how small it was with the two of us and 2 big dogs. Or maybe I just expected too much for a hundred bucks.

The service was friendly, the brownies and coffee were good, all we saw at breakfast were waffles, which we passed on. As I said, it’s a very decent place for the money and I would stay there again if bringing the dogs. Without the dogs, I think I’d try someplace different.

I actually lived in Number 11, the Now, Rubicon. It was haunted. Loud banging outside all of the walls, and in a consecutive manner. Only happend twice in the 4 months I was there. But, twice was enough. So, if your in for a thrill, or a little ghost hunt, stay in the Rubicon. Have fun. PS The pool is most welcome in the summer heat.

These old loggers cabins are very basic and 'rustic' but a stay here is just superb. It is just across the road from Lake Tahoe and close to any Tahoe attraction. The staff are super friendly and the free flowing brownies and cookies with hot chocolate or coffee are fabulous. We first visited in November 2008 and loved it so much we booked and stayed 6 nights over Christmas as well.
It snowed loads and we had a wonderful time.
