We hadn't visited Temecula's wine country in over 20 years and weren't sure quite what to expect. Many new wineries and restaurants have popped up in the meantime, and some of the originals have reinvented themselves as to be practically unrecognizable. Mount Palomar Winery (where Shorty's is located) is one of those places. It's definitely become a go-to place for big events, bus tours, weddings, etc., with formal Tuscany-style landscaping and amazing valley views from its hillside perch. It's very well organized in that even though while we were having lunch at Shorty's, two tour buses came in, they did not eat in the dining area and didn't interfere with our quiet lunch on a shady terrace, next to olive gardens and a bubbling waterfall. Service was friendly and efficient. Loved the bruschetta topped with melted brie and crushed fresh strawberries and a hint of honey, the three-sausage appetizer (enough for a main course as well as a take-away dinner that night), and the lamb meatloaf. Reasonable prices for huge glasses of wine and creative, carefully prepared, food. It will definitely be our place for lunch during future visits to the Temecula wineries.
