We hadn't visited Temecula's wine country in over 20 years and weren't sure quite what to expect. Many new wineries and restaurants have popped up in the meantime, and some of the originals have reinvented themselves as to be practically unrecognizable. Mount Palomar Winery (where Shorty's is located) is one of those places. It's definitely become a go-to place for big events, bus tours, weddings, etc., with formal Tuscany-style landscaping and amazing valley views from its hillside perch. It's very well organized in that even though while we were having lunch at Shorty's, two tour buses came in, they did not eat in the dining area and didn't interfere with our quiet lunch on a shady terrace, next to olive gardens and a bubbling waterfall. Service was friendly and efficient. Loved the bruschetta topped with melted brie and crushed fresh strawberries and a hint of honey, the three-sausage appetizer (enough for a main course as well as a take-away dinner that night), and the lamb meatloaf. Reasonable prices for huge glasses of wine and creative, carefully prepared, food. It will definitely be our place for lunch during future visits to the Temecula wineries.

Very nice place. Everyone really enjoyed their food, when it finally came. They were not overly busy but food took almost 45 mins to come out to the table. This put us behind schedule on our wine tour the rest of the day.

It's not a bad place to visit for wine and food. I went here with my family since my son is a member of their wine club. The view is nice. They had some musicians playing which was OK though I could probably have done better musically. The wines are OK though not the best. The food was OK though not the best. I was excited since they had Poke Ahi on the menu but it was not anywhere near as good as I've had at other places and not even close to what you get in Hawaii.
We asked for water (we had wine from the tasting) but it didn't come until after the meal after we had to ask again.
If you are touring wineries, you might want to stop here but you might want to dine elswhere.

They do weddings here too. It's a lovely place for that I gues if you bring your own food and wine?

Great food, but needs a wider selection on the menu. Specials on bottles of wine purchased with meals, during the week

Since we did some wine tasting in Temecula on our way to San Diego, we needed to enjoy a good meal to go with the wine. Luckily for us, Shorty's Bistro was that and then some. Although there was no one there on the Wednesday we visited, I had a meatloaf and a salad that would be hard to top. I realize that doesn't sound like the fanciest cuisine, but it was peerless. The restaurant offers great specials on wine, so we wound up buying a bottle with lunch. It was rather ironic that we went to Shorty's to eat and "sober" up, and they were able to sell us more wine.

Also, the outdoor seating adds to the experience. Granted, Temecula can get really hot at times, but the seating is covered, so you are not baking in the sun. Our waitress was also excellent and personable, and that contributed to our 5 star experience there.
