“A genuinely good Temecula winery - Palumbo”

In general, Temecula has gotten much better as a wine region in just the past few years. Or so it seems -- we may also just be more discriminating in finding the good ones. I think both trends are true. This past weekend we visited three wineries: Palumbo, Doffo, and Chapin. All are small wineries, and all were pretty good. Palumbo was the best -- really nice wines. The other two were good, but the wines were not dry enough for my taste at Doffo and Chapin. The service at all three was very friendly and enjoyable. If you think Temecula isn't worth visiting, think again. You'll have a great time, and if you do a little research ahead of time, you'll have some really good wine. If you're new to Temecula wineries, here's a hint: the climate favors reds. I had a very good white at Palumbo, but that's a rarity in Temecula.

We've visited most of the wineries in Temecula over the past ten years or so and they range from mediocre to downright awful with this one remarkable exception. We are regular wine drinkers and like dry reds. Palumbo ranks with the serious wineries of better healed regions like Napa or Southern France - which does not appear to be an aspiration of any other Temecula operations. Kudos to Palumbo for achieving quality in such a lacklustre region. Their Meritage is superb. If you're visiting the area for quality wine, Palumbo is your only option among a strange collection of tourist traps and downright bad wines. A gem!

Gotta love the small wineries. Palumbo may be off the main roads but it is still close and easy to get to and totally worth checking out. The wine is good and is priced well. The service is friendly and they have a nice little outdoor patio where you can sit and relax with your yummy wine.

Great small winery with great Reds. Really enjoyed the tasting room and staff. One of my new favorites in Temecula.

Decent reds and nice staff working the tasting room. The whites didn't excite me, but the reds were good.
