“Hidden gem of Temecula”
Reviewed 2 December 2013 via mobile

We were introduced to this campground by my family. It's rustic, quiet and pretty well maintained. If you own a rzr or arctic cat type UTV, you can bring it here! The sites have full hook ups and a fire ring. During the summer they have a waterslide and a couple pools to choose from. There are also two coin-op laundry rooms on site so if you need to run a load of clothes you can. There isn't too much vehicle traffic so it's safe for kids to ride their bikes and scooters. I highly recommend.

My family and I have been coming to Vail for Halloween for about 8 years! It keeps getting better and better. Great trick or treating for the kids, haunted hay ride, haunted house, music, amazing food, and overall, great energy! Vail is the best place for my family together because it is such a safe environment. Truly, we feel perfectly at home at Vail Lake. Looking forward to Thanksgiving as well!

Its an Ugly Overpriced Place ...If your old , and don't know any better , then you will think that this mini Diamond Valley is the bomb . I have traveled and been to real lakes , not wanabee lakes,,Be careful on campers flooding the place overnight making it very noisy ..and the stores are hardly every open and do not carry much in regards to supply's. They could also clean the bathroom sometimes

Caught roughly about 13 big white bass and 3 GOOD size bluegill between the two of us! The wind was super crazy over the weekend but surprisingly made all the fishes hungry! Although as exciting as it might sound, fishing in this resort ONLY for catch & release, unless the fish you caught is swallowing the whole hook!
So after almost 5 hours of fishing, only 6 fishes we could take home & others we released them back into the wild :)

We stayed in the "Oaks" section over the fourth of July holiday. When we arrived on Wednesday night, the campground looked beautiful. Lots of trees where we were and it was relatively quiet - but it was also pretty late. The next morning, the campers came in by the droves, which was totally expected and fine...but what we did not expect (and perhaps we should have, which is our fault), were the sheer number of golf carts, dune buggies and rhino-type vehicles. They were loud, and by no means was there even an attempt to adhere to the 10 mph speed limit in the park. We watched many, many times as bicyclists had to veer out of the way of oncoming rhinos who had no intention of stopping, slowing down or following rules.

That last point, about the rules, is a real problem here. It would seem that there is absolutely NO enforcement of their own rules. Alcohol in the pool area (it is CLEARLY stated in several places that no alcohol is allowed), off-roading throughout the park and the road down to the lake (and if you're willing to spend $3,500 a year for membership - it would seem that staying by the lake is the way to go), unattended fires, BONFIRES (and in our climate this is ridiculous behavior), and even fireworks. I never once saw a ranger actually approach campers and suggest that they follow rules, and in fact when we were at the pool we saw a yellow-shirted "Security" guard who just smiled when people were drinking. I think it's going to take a real accident to actually wake these people up and get them to enforce their own rules. As for the clientele, well...they are a rough crowd compared to most of the RV parks we've been to in the past.

Price? Well, we paid $100 a night to be at this park, and the value just is not there at all. I can stay in San Diego at a few different parks for the same price or even cheaper and have a much better experience with a completely clean and manicured property. Upon first glance at the property, you'd think you were going to be staying in a beautiful resort, but once you drive in farther, you see that they only landscape in certain areas, that many of the facilities are falling into complete disrepair, and that they maintain only what they absolutely must in order to get by. Additionally, the website is not clear at ALL that campers cannot take advantage of the lake unless you're a member or wish to pay $10 per adult to be able to fish from the shore only each day. It feels just a little like a bait and switch when they name the resort Vail Lake..but don't make it clear that only members can really have full lake access, and it's definitely not a good value at all for $100 a night. If they want to charge that much, then they should probably consider doing a LOT more to keep the place up, including getting internet/cable/cell access throughout the campground. We found it humorous that we couldn't get decent cell coverage in the campground area, but down at the lake we had full 3G. Fascinating. I'd read that this land was involved in a bankruptcy dispute earlier in the year, and to be honest - I'm not surprised. The one possible bright spot in the entire weekend was on the 6th of July, when they had their fireworks display down at the lake. It was a beautiful display that surpassed our expectations, but still not worth the $100 a night pricetag. We won't be back.

Room Tip: The Oaks had plenty of trees and the shade from the hot sun is key. Sites 119, 120 are really shade...

We stayed up on the Chardonnay Mesa overlooking the lake. It's the first right after the art gallery, then take the first left. The only problem we had was being put in the wrong spot and the next day having the guests pull up to inform us. We had to pack up and move to another spot. Nice guy who helped us, but check your spot to be sure. It was a pain! Thankfully, we hadn't put out all of our gear at that point. The lady working in the store was kind and helpful. They were pretty much cleaned out for that time of year. There is a Walmart and other stores on the way in to the resort if your in a bind. One of the mornings we took a drive out to the lake and had a look at the other areas. Most of the campground is scenic and has mature trees except one in the very back. It could have been Merlot Mesa. It was dusty and had no shade. I'd check before you make reservations. March was peaceful and relaxing time to visit. We'll go back and spend more time on the lake kayaking. For those of you with little ones be aware that even the Lower Chardonnay is up on the hill. Plenty of families camped there and the kids rode their bikes around the roads there. They had a blast.

Room Tip: Chardonnay Mesa or Lower Chardonnay for lake views.

First off the campground is dirty. The bathrooms are not cleaned. The store and bar are always closed. You will probably have problems with your water and power ( I did and I know other people that in the past had problems). The office staff has no idea what they are talking about. You ask one question and get different answers from them. The WORST at this resort is the manager VERA. She will not answer any of your questions, she runs away from you. She does not take the responsibility as a manager. Advice to the owner get a new manager and get rid of VERA! And this place it a total rip off way too high of prices for a awful place. My family and I will never come to this resort ever again and I hope that this review is helpful to others.
