For the past decade or so we've traveled to the Paso Robles area twice a year to visit their excellent wineries. This area is well known for producing some of the finest red wines, and the climate is particularly well-suited to growing Zinfandel grapes.
Frank, the owner of ZinAlley, doesn't advertise his winery so we didn't visit it until May 2012 when a local Paso resident strongly recommended we stop in. It was such a great experience that we purchased a number of bottles and returned in January of 2013 to buy more.
ZinAlley doesn't produce a lot of wine compared to other wineries, but what they produce is absolutely top notch. Other than during harvest, Frank does all the care taking of the grapes and handles the production of the wine himself. He practices dry farming and is an incredible wealth of information about growing grapes and producing wine. He is also not lacking in personality.
We just tasted ZinAlley's 2011 Zinfandel and it absolutely blew us away. It is the best Zin, and arguably the best red wine we've tasted. A whole bunch of it is making its way to us.
For those who live in Arizona, Frank can ship his wine there. Not all wineries can because of laws limiting the shipment of Califonia wines to Arizona, particularly from large wineries.
If you are in Paso Robles, and like bold red wines, Zin Alley should be on your list of wineries to visit.
