Still trying to get back to Normal after the amazing Vacation ...

GETTING THERE : LONG STORY at the end !

ON ARRIVAL: Warm welcome at the reception with amazing "Jaggery Coffee", after the usual formalities our car was whisked away by the valet , and the luggage to our room by the Golf Carts (Your mode of transport for the next 2 days!) ... after we finished our coffee and were dropped at our room. The Resort in itself is awesome with its neatly tucked in villas (Tree houses) ...

THE VILLA: a split condo with a seating area and the bed on diff levels ... a sit out with comfy chairs and a sunbath chair as well ... you can stare at the top of the Trees .... we had a choir of Crickets(Cicadas) to keep us company at most times ! Spacious with a well stocked minibar (on the house) and some good coffee (from the plantation). Bathrooms were clean and spacious, good space for luggage and 2 cupboards ...

The Restaurants : they have 3 ... a bar , a main dining , Verandah( For fresh Coffee :))
The restaurant is good ... all meals are inclusive of the rates ... they generally have a buffet system, but since the occupancy was less on the rainy weekend that we were there ... we were served the entire buffet on the table ! Good Food and selection ... despite the location of the resort ... the also have a section on Coorg special Food... which we enjoyed thouroughly ! when we enquired about Coorgi Desserts , we were promptly answered that we will get some special Coorgi Desserts at Dinner !!! (apart from the 5 desserts already being served)
A special note to all the staff at the restaurant : extremely polite and accomodating ... one evening when my hubby wasnt keeping too well they went out of thier way to serve jaljeera and khichdi :)
the restaurant has an amazing view ... which i will not disclose ! its a joy to walk in and discover the "Dance Floor"

ACTIVITIES : Once in .... there is no getting out ! didnt want to either ! we went for the plantation tour with Mr. Bheemaih ! knowledgable and encouranging , it was a treat to see the beautiful flowers , fruit and spices growing along with the coffee ofcourse ... which ended with a delectable "make your own Coffee" session at the verandah !!!!! we really enjoyed !!!
they also have a recreation centre with the usual board games and a huge TV and speaker system ( it was football time when we went ! and still none of the residents watched any games ... nature was more enchanting !!) They also offer trekking ... 4.5 hrs trek approx ...

THE SPA: The SPA is superbly located at the highest point of the resort , small and cosy , good service... relaxation galore !

Yoga : Didnt try it but sure to be great !!!

AHHH !!!! : I PROMISED I will get to the part about the Journey ....
its slightly long but totally worth it !!!!
while going to Tamara we took a stop at Mysore and then proceeded the next morning ...as you enter the region it is breath takingly beautiful !!! and we really enjoyed the drive !

ON THE WAY BACK : WE MADE THE JOURNEY TO BANGALORE IN A SINGLE STRETCH ! 9 hrs !!! The Tamara staff was nice enough to help us with a driver till the end of the TAMARA Property (4KMS GHAT ROAD) ... Thanks Mr. Virender, by the time we got to the crazy traffic of bangalore ... we wanted to go back to TAMARA once again !!!

Some requests and Suggestions !!!! :
1. Please donot change the SPA location
2. If possible can the bathrooms be equipped with a Tub ... ideal to soak in !
3.Driver service can be provided to all guests to and from the 4 km point !(Thanks once again )
4. DONOT CHANGE THE BELOW 12 yrs children not allowed policy (Sorry kiddos)

We will be back soon !!!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for being so thorough in your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed your holiday at The Tamara Coorg. The beauty and wonder of this exquisite locale is enhanced by our bouquet of warm and personalized services and we will pass on your compliments to our dedicated staff.

The resort gives every guest the opportunity to feel at one with nature and it is not surprising to hear that the television was neglected! It is unfortunate that you were unable to partake in the yoga sessions. Conducted by trained yogis on a picturesque bridge surrounded by sparkling streams and fresh mountain air, yoga at The Tamara Coorg is truly a life-altering experience.

Guest feedback plays a very important role in our quest for absolute perfection and your points have been duly noted. We look forward to giving you yet another signature experience at The Tamara Coorg.

The set up and ambience are what first catch the eye at The Tamara .It was great to see that even samallest of details had been taken care of whether it was accommodation ,food or the layout of the property .
While the meals are served as buffet but the restaurant staff is ever so willing to customise the food as per ones ' palate .The entire staff was friendly and courteous .
The layout of the cottages and rooms was fabulous and one had to remind oneself that the property was very much in India .
There was plenty of activity to indulge in by way of treks ,plantation walks ,coffee making experience ,etc.
However ,for us the outdoor activity got a little restricted due to the incessant rain .I would suggest that The Tamara management look at a discounted tariff during the heavy monsoon period to make it more attractive and value for money since the outdoor activity is restricted . This is something that resorts in the hill in the north resort to .I would also like to see more gifts and with gift packing in the gift shop .
Overall ,a fabulous stay and would definitely like to go back again .The connectivity to nearest airports though is a bit discouraging .The drive from Bangalore is about 6 and a half hour but I am told from Mangalore it takes about 3 hours .
Next time would explore the mangalore route .
Parting wish .....wish could stay on forever .

Room Tip: All are good but I guess higher one goes the view is better.

After having read reviews here, I decided to go to the TAMARA. I was not disappointed.

The road to Tamara is long and winding. It just does not end. The last few miles are quite tricky and I was wondering how did a minibus ever reach this place. So first comment - Be ready for some long hard drive to this place.

Once you reach, you are welcomed by a many smiling hosts, garlanded and welcomed with a drink and photographed if you so desire. The check in is smooth and you then get on a golf cart to your room. Depending on your purpose of coming here, the rooms can be selected if a choice is available. The higher you go lesser is the human intrusion which anyway is very small. The view, as defined by many here ( on Tripadvisor), is better on the rooms number starting from 2xx.

The rooms are gorgeous. The layout is practical yet appealing. The separation of closets, washroom, bed and sitting arrangement is neat. The balcony has a table chair and a beach bed. It overlooks the valley and if the woods and trees do not interfere the sights should be pleasing. The sounds of birds, insects and animals can perhaps intrigue you if one is a perennial city dweller like me. It does have some calming effect.

The supplies in the room are adequate. I was surprised to find the entire minibar contents was complementary and replaced everyday. It consists of lot of soft drinks, wafers, biscuits - enough to take care of sudden hunger pangs or as accompaniments for a drink.

The washroom is neat and clean with shower area separate. The towels and soaps are wonderful. I am tempted to add (especially for Indians like me) - there is no hand shower near the commode, just paper rolls - but a bucket and tumbler is available - I guess wise people get my point.

Now the restaurant and food:

You have to walk to the restaurant or bar and it is situated above a spring / waterfall (in monsoon perhaps). A part of the restaurant has a transparent glass floor with disco lights, i assume. You get a strange feel at first because you see the stream and rocks below you and it gives a different feeling.

The food is moderate in taste. As we visited on weekdays and perhaps off season, the chef asked us our choice and served it. That was great. When the occupancy is higher there is a buffet lay out which was quite expansive, The quality of food and service was very good. People are attentive and treat you with great courtesy.

The best part of our stay was the plantation trail. Ponnappa, our guide, was very friendly and well informed. being a local he could tell us about the various flora and fauna in the jungle around the property. I can now identify, coffee, cane, cinnamon and pepper and many other trees apart from some wild flowers - no mean achievement thanks to Ponnappa. The trail ended in "the Verandah" where we made our own coffee right from baking, grinding and processing the coffee seeds.

We also had a good yoga session, though not at its regular venue as it was raining, In the fresh clean and pure atmosphere around, we felt refreshed and energetic through out. Me and my wife did never ever feel tired no matter how much we walked up and down the slopes of the surrounding hills. That was quite surprising and realised that difference the fresh air and the air we breathe in the cities.

We enjoyed our stay and would like to come here again. The pricing was about a tad higher which has made me keep it at very good level rather than excellent. But not everything can be counted in terms of money. As I said earlier, the amount of fresh air we had, must have replenished our bodies with mind.

Dear Sanjay,

Thank you for taking the time out to write such a detailed review. Tucked away in a dense plantation, the approach roads are not as developed as in the city but we are glad you found it worth the drive.

Every cottage has an open deck that provides spectacular views of the Western Ghats and as you rightly put it, has an extremely calming effect along with the melodious background of a bird orchestra.

We are glad that you enjoyed the hospitable services and had the opportunity to gain knowledge about the surrounding flora and fauna. The Tamara Coorg’s unique location gives every guest a myriad of activities to indulge in right from coffee brewing to yoga, treks and bird watching.

The fresh air, magnificent views and lush environment truly make for an unparalleled holiday experience, right in the lap of nature. We look forward to welcoming you at the resort again.

Warm Regards,

We were 2 couples travelling in my Friends brand new 4WD Ford endeavour. We were brave enough to leave our kids behind with our cousins and ventured out to experience the Tamara...whoa !what a weekend it turned out....The resort is nicely hidden inside a sprawling coffee estate bordering the forest and surrounded by mountain peaks...greenery all around. They value silence as there are boards saying "Enjoy the Silence". All you can hear in the evening is the noise of crickets and Cicadas and during the day chirping of birds. Having checked in around lunch time we straight away headed for lunch. The traditional welcome accompanied with local drink made of Coffee,Pepper and Jaggery was just a sample of what was to follow. They have electric buggies to drive the guests around the resort....the rooms are at higher levels so not very easy to climb. The buggy driver walks the guest through the facilities and activities in the resort . The restaurant is wonderfully designed with a natural water fall beneath. These are somethings that have to be seen to believe...this resort compares to some of the best in the world. Being lean season they did not have a buffet but a set menu card is given for you to order what ever you wish to have from those dishes. Well prepared delicious food served with love by the staff enhances the experience. We then entered our room...well thought out architectural design with a view to die for...a beautiful deck for you to relax...the room opens to the view of the rising sun...and the best of facilities. There is enough for the guests to explore for at least two days.
Now what makes Tamara an extraordinary experience and value for money spent?
The staff...they go out of your way to make you feel wanted...I am sure they have been trained to ensure no request from a guest goes unattended.
Overall its a MINDBLOWING experience...I cant stop writing...but I have to...so my advise to fellow travellers who enjoy luxury in nature...TAMARA has it all...plan a 2-3 day break.
Warning-kids below 12 not allowed because of the location and the Pool is under construction.
Go explore and live the time of your life!!!

Room Tip: They have some suites with Jacuzzi but not being sold as of now...these rooms are totally bewitching...

Very well thought, well planned and one can say brilliant landscaping done by the architect. Its lil far from Bangalore the rout which we took but worth traveling so far. Entry to this estate itself is amazing, as if you are driving through dense forest. You receive warm welcome at the reception with local flowers and sweet little waterfall at the entrance. Its definitely the place for couple, romantic location, view, rooms, food and service.
Every room has fantastic view of coffee plantation and wooden structure make you feel that you are very well part of the forest. But no compromised on luxury by providing comfi bed, options of pillows, nice air conditioned rooms, TOTO fittings in bathrooms, homemade shower jell, etc.
electric cars to travel from rooms to restaurant, conference room, reception and to other rooms too. Hotel also arranges 7 km nature trail in beautiful mountains of Coorg, it's an amazing experience apart from luxury of hotel.
At the end, no point where I can say hotel need to improve only to continue to do so what they are doing currently.
cheers.

Room Tip: Upper side rooms have maximum view of forest.
