Description: Voted one of the 21 Best Mexican Restaurants in American, by Thrillist, Guaymas Restaurant is positioned after the original City of Guaymas in Mexico. Guaymas, Mexico is a fishing village on the Sea of Cortez. There, the fishermen journey out each morning for the Camarones Gigantes, the large shrimp, which have brought their town its international reputation. Guaymas Restaurant upholds the authentic, fresh cuisine of Mexico home to America. Guaymas is not just a Mexican restaurant, it is an authentic "south of the border" experience. The menu, inspired by the traditional Mexican foods of celebration, focuses on authentic Mexican cuisine made with farm-to-table ingredients, duplicating the flavors of the small coastal fishing village for which it is named. The seafood featured, includes grilled giant shrimp and fresh fish selections. Also featured are grilled meats and fowl, classic traditional Mexican favorites, housemade tortillas and tamales, fresh salsas and guacamole, and many other regional dishes not typically seen on this side of the border. To compliment the menu, the bar at Guaymas offers an extensive list of margaritas, tequilas, beers, wines and agua frescas, which are as authentic as its food. Guaymas offers the best of the authentic, fresh cooking of Mexico's colorful culinary heritage. Our interiors also offer an authentic environment featuring white stucco walls, exposed wood beam ceilings and a bustling exhibition kitchen. Colorful paper hangings and woven upholstery add a festive touch. There is also extensive use of outdoor seating. In addition to a full bar, banquet and catering services are also available

“Many happy lunchers here”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

We had lunch elsewhere but given the recent spate of poor reviews felt it worthwhile to state that when we walked past this place afterwards, the large outdoor space overlooking the ferry landing was full, almost to bursting, on a mid-week afternoon.

Lots of locals appear to have voted with their wallets, clearly voting "yes" for this place. We will eat here on our next visit and plan to pre-book with a request for outside seating, to avoid disappointment.

Also, the poor reviews do not seem to mention food at all, they just give general negative comments. Both curious and unreasonable.

“Great food and views”
Reviewed 7 May 2014 via mobile

It took a while to get our drink order. The appetizers came out first but once the first round was delivered, the server was very attentive. The margaritas were EXCELLENT as was the guacamole. I would highly recommend this place, but maybe get a drink at the bar first.

“So sorry to see Guaymas go bad”
Reviewed 7 May 2014

This used to be one of our favorite restaurants back when we lived in the Bay Area. So, in our recent visit, following an afternoon walk in Tiburon, we decided to visit for drinks and appetizers. My first surprise was that on a glorious sunny day the outdoor seating area was almost empty (used to be packed 15 years ago). Still, we were left for 10 minutes with no service. When the waiter finally approached our table, he informed us that the happy-hour menu on our table was placed there by mistake (there was one on every other table as well) and that it was 6pm anyway and happy hour was over (my iPhone was showing 5:58 plus we had arrived 10 minutes earlier). When we sat down we did not know about happy hour and would have happily ordered from the general menu but decided to get up and leave after such sleazy attitude by the waiter/manager. Too bad. It was nice while it was good.

Our dinner was very good! Good variety on the menu and good service. We had a nice window table right near the ferry dock.

“Do not give them money to continue their malfeasances.”
Reviewed 27 December 2013

This depresses me.

We really need a revolution in our waterfront establishments, here in Tiburon. As a local, let me sadly suggest with a heavy heart that you spend your money anywhere but our town. =(
