Review of Kushiage Dining Horon - CLOSED

Kushiage Dining Horon

Restaurant details

My wife saw this place on the Travel Channel and wanted to try it out next time we were in SoCal. So, this past weekend we went. The restaurant is a little hard to find as there are no big signs. The print that says "Kushiage Dining Huron" is very small beneath Japanese characters. The front door is hidden behind a large red banner. It is in the same shopping center as a Methodist Church. Just trust your GPS...
Got there at like 11pm and the place was packed. They take reservations, so call and make one. People go here and take their time, which is cool. The service is really good, but they speak mostly Japanese. It IS a Japanese restaurant, so that should not come as a surprise.
The food and drinks are excellent! They have Japanese beer on tap and a HUGE selection of sake. The sake we had was so smooth, it was amazing. The main food served here is a style called kushiage, which I think must mean "on a stick" in Japanese because most of the food is served on friend and served on skewers. We tried a variety of meats and they were all tasty. I suggest ordering 2 types of skewers at a time so that you can differentiate between what you are eating. I also ordered a bowl of tonkatsu ramen. the pork broth was excellent, the noodles perfectly cooked.
This place is truly a hidden gem. Don't go there if you are in a rush. This is a place that you must take your time to really get the full experience. We were only good for about an hour before I got tired. It was midnight... Next time we will get there earlier and take our time. I can't wait...

I would have to try it out again. I wasn't familiar with the place, so I thought I had ordered chicken, but i actually got the pork. When you walk in for lunch, their is a table inside to the right, where you place your order. You pay for your order first, and then you sit down. If you can't use chopsticks ask for silverware. The service was good. I had talked with one of the cooks at the park, and heard that the Fried Asparagus was excellent, but it's only served for dinner. So next time in the area I'll have to try it. Just make sure you know what you are ordering, and ask questions. I think i would have enjoyed it, if I had received the right order. The soboro tamago is a good side. Just ask what kind of meat is on top. Overall it was a new experience. Waitress taught me how to use my chopsticks.
