Now, I've been to MANY Benihana's, from Vegas to Anaheim, Newport Beach to South Bay. Occassionally the service is spotty. Its a bit pricey, and during dinner the staff with rush you in and out, so they can prepare for the next show.
If you can, come to Beihanas for LUNCH. Yes, Lunch! The menu is cheaper (my steak and shrimp was $17) but here's the difference.
First, the portion. Lunch is smaller, and you get just soup OR salad, not both. Your lunch does not include the shirimp appetizer, and you don't get ice cream unless its your birthday. They still include your birthday photo and they sing to you as well.
Recently I celebrated a birthday at a non Benihana teppan place in the OC. While the other place had a steak that was bigger and tender, the other place didn't compare to Benihana in taste.
The fried rice IMHO is worth paying extra for. Its probaby unheathy with the butter garlic sauce, but its perfect and full of goodies like veggies, chicken and egg. The meat is done just right, and they trim the fat off as they cook the food.
The other place offered "free" rice, but it didn't have the ingredients that Benihanas offered. Just no comparison.
After trying a few non Benihana places, I have to say KUDOS to Benihana for maintaining a good product that's consistent.. and that's why I am giving this visit a 5 star.
The show is ok.. pretty generic and cheesy, but if its your first time, its always a fun show to watch. Its sad that you probably won't get an Asian guy to go your Teppan cooking, but hey, even Gonzales (our guy today) did a great job. Applause.
Lunch for 4, with drinks came to $74 which is cheaper than dinner and I still left quite satisfied.
