Used to go here many years ago and tried it on a whim for lunch. Just ordered salads as we felt that they really didn't have fresh blue crab or BBQ beef that wasn't pre-made by a company. I ordered southwestern chicken salad but was told no jicama. There is a grocery store about 1/2 mile away that someone should have gone to buy a few. There were also way too many tortilla strips strewn all over the top. Although it was ok, I find no reason to return for very average food.

Having lived in the South Bay area of Los Angeles for over 30 years, I thought I should review some restaurants we always go to. Our number one go-to restaurant is Misto, usually on a Friday evening. Casual, charming, great wait staff, and some truly stellar menu items that remain favorites since the restaurant opened what seems like 20 years ago. Hands down the best tortilla soup anywhere. The first truly great tomato bisque soup which continues to rank with the best. The fusilli bucati is amazing. The mixed grill or halibut is always great. And the desserts are wonderful, especially the coconut dream pie. There is a daily word scramble on the menu which if you figure out (the waiters will tell you the first and last word if you ask) wins you a free cookie, lemon bar or turtle bar. Go for the turtle bar (like those turtle chocolate, pecan and caramel candies) -- served with whip cream and caramel sauce -- a full dessert for two by itself. Inside or outside dining. A lego play table for kids back by the bakery counter. See you there.

This place is tucked away within some trendy shops in South Torrance as you go up the hill into Palos Verdes.

The food is great, reasonable prices and very good service. There's always a special game to play while you wait for your order to be served. They give you a word scramble of about 8-10 letters. If you figure it out before ending your meal you get a free desert. If you beg, they'll even give you a hint of the first letter. Really fun! They even have a small bakery so you can take home something yummy.

Misto is one of my favorite restaurants. I go there often, as I live nearby, and am never disappointed. The staff is competent and friendly, the restaurant is neat and clean. There is sometimes a wait on weekends, but usually it is manageable. And on top of all of this, the food is amazing!

My favorites are the Asian Potsitckers (four fried dumplings with mixed veggies in the most delicious sauce - if they bottled that sauce I would buy it!), the house salad (fresh veggies piled high and tossed with their special Ranch dressing), the Chicken Ravioli (in sundreid tomato cream sauce with spinach, roasted garlic, sundried tomatoes, and mushrooms) and creme brulee (they have different kinds, including berry and chocolate chip). I could never eat all of the perfect meal I just described to you, since the portions here are large, and they serve bread on the table along with a yummy dipping sauce made of garlic, oil, and other stuff (possibly anchovies?) that fills me up fast every time!

Misto is definitely worth a visit. Their menu is large and extensive, and although I have my favorites, I have never heard anyone complain about a meal they have ordered there!

Everything from salads to sandwiches, pasta to steak, tacos to hamburgers. Lots of choices always fresh. Daily specials. Great bakery with yummy choices. Service is very good. You can eat out on the patio but inside is rustic and comfortable. It is not a wallet buster either for what you get!
