If you limit yourself to the combo plates, you are missing out on some great food! Consider the Buta Kakuni--a huge chunk of meltingly fatty pork belly, served with a bit of cooked spinach and hot mustard (cuts the fat, I like to believe). Or the ShioTan (grilled beef tongue.) Or the Teba Chicken Wings. Or ask for Butter Shiitake--might not be on the menu, but they will make it--to. die. for. Or the goma spinach. Or really, pretty much anything on the extensive ikakaya menu. This is not where I would go for sashimi, but it's perfectly okay as well.
