Pinewood Cove RV Park and Campground
Reviewed 17 July 2011

At one time this must of been a nice RV Park, but on our trip lots of trash scattered around, broken water pipes with tools left on ground. Bathrooms inside and out not cleaned, looks like no one knows what a broom is for. Trash is picked up at 6pm every night but what has blown around all day is still left. Lots of broken down equipment and hasn't been painted in years. Staff is all under 24 no one around at night to check on the loud parties.

Me and my wife are yearly travelers. Every year for the past 6 years we travel to california to see our wonderful grandchildren. We make it a point to stay at Pinewood Cove for 3 or 4 days before continueing on to see our family. Pinewood cove is a great peaceful place with a wonderful staff every year. They treat us exceptionally and always go out of there way to accomidate us. The first review kind of degraded it but it is really not at all like that. I could see it having trash strewn around after labor day weekend, in fact in my 20 years of traveling i dont think i have been to a resort that hasn't after any major holiday. On all of our trips there the weather was nice the park was quiet the pool was clean and the grounds were clean. The rates at Pinewood Cove are extremely fair and we have no plans of never making our trip without stopping at Pinewood Cove for a few days. See you in the fall Pinewood Cove crew.

Nice location with lots of trees
Nice pool
B-10 was a relatively level site and a little more away from other sites

Non-potable water
Lots of hills – stairs and retaining walls in many campsites
Sites very close to each other
Trash everywhere
Store closes at 4pm (at least after Labor Day)
No trash picked up
Dirty pool
Dirty bathrooms – no toilet paper
Currently no real boat launch at the campground

We stayed at Pinewood Cove Campground the day after Labor Day. We chose this date to get away from people and hopefully have a quiet campground. That is what we found, but we also found all the aftermath of the holiday weekend.

The Campground is in a very nice location with lots of trees to provide shade. The pool looks as nice as the ad pictures. The biggest problem was the trash.

The original site they gave us had a soccer ball and lots of other trash strewn about. We asked to change sites after trying to set the tent up. The site was on a hill, so you had stairs to access the tent pad and retaining walls surrounding the pad. Our tent is larger, so it didn’t leave much room on the pad. More importantly, we have a 2 yo, so we were concerning he would trip or fall off the retaining wall (approx. 3 ‘ high at the back). We were able to move down one site to B-10. This site was relatively level and without stairs or retaining walls. I would say at least half the sites in this campground have stairs and/or retaining walls.

We decided to try out the pool. Very pretty, but freezing cold and dirty. It looked like the pump was not working. We let our 2yo jump in a few times, since he loves pools. But when his lips turned blue and he was shivering, we had to pull him out. The bathroom at the pool had not been cleaned yet and had 0 toilet paper.

One the way back to our site we checked our bathroom. It had ¼ roll of paper in one stall and it was almost impossible to actually get the paper off the upper roll. By this time, it was after 4pm and the store/check in was already closed.

We went back to our site and decided to take our son to the playgrounds. The one with the treehouse was very cute and clean. The other playground by the pavilion was a mess. Trash and broken glass were strewn about.

A couple of things that surprised us were the lack of bear lockers and bear proof trashcans. The trashcans said not to deposit anything after 6pm so as not to attract the bears. Well, they never emptied the trash can before 6, so it had food in it all night. At least we didn’t hear any bears in the area overnight. The other surprise was that all the water spigots and the water faucets in the bathroom were labeled “non-potable”. I have never been to a developed campground, especially one charging $30 a night for tent camping, to only provide non-potable water.

This campground has lots of potential, but needs a lot of cleaning and staff that are a little more interested in what they are doing. We will not be returning based on the trash and the fees they are charging. I’m sure the staff wanted a break after the busy holiday weekend, but asking that they check to make sure there is actually toilet paper in the bathroom is a pretty small request.
