This is such a cute little hotel. It used to be a Larkspur Landing and still has some of that style.

The staff was extremely friendly, warm and accommodating. When we arrived they alerted us to the cute little winery next door and filled us in on other nearby restaurants, etc.

After a fun trip to the winery, we brought a bottle back and enjoyed it on their outdoor patio. They have comfy adirondack chairs and fire pits to enjoy, which we loved.

Rooms were clean and comfy. Overall it could use a little updating but is stay here again for sure! Great place!

I had 3 nights here so that I could explore the Donner Pass region of Northern California. Truckee is a great little town, great food & plenty of bars in a very clean town. The Truckee Hotel, despite it's age, still has plenty of character and charm. No air conditioning, but Truckee doesn't stay hot after sunset, unlike southern California. There is a grade crossing for the Union Pacific mainline right next to the hotel, so you'll hear plenty of train horns. As I am a railfan, this wasn't a problem, but if you're not a railfan, then it could be a problem. The room was small, but that was fine with me as I was a solo traveller and only spent 7-8 hours per day in the room. The only thing I'd change if I stayed here again would be upgrading from a European Room to an American Room as the European Room has a shared bathroom. Luckily I was there in a quiet time, or else it would be been annoying.

Spent a night in the Truckee hotel and experienced hotel life from the time before modern conveniences. No air conditioning just an open window, train crossing within 50 yards so train noise at various times including whistles and on the European plan showing and WC down the hall. No elevator so haul your luggage up the stairs and if you are looking for a TV go to the common room and play a video but go down the street to bar if you want to watch TV. All that being said it was convenient to town and comfortable. The breakfast wasn't set up by 7 in the morning so I couldn't evaluate it so went to the squeeze in and had a Hugh breakfast just a few doors down the street. A different experience in all and worth spending the night.

Room Tip: Look for a room near the showers and WC and no higher than the second floor where the common room an...

Stayed here for two nights in early July while going from Lake Tahoe to Lassen National Park. The hotel is located right on the main street in town. If you like the idea of staying in a hotel with an updated old west feel and history to it this is it. The room was average size and was clean but very simple. There was only a sink in our room. The shower and toilet were down the hallway. This was not a problem at all. We never saw anyone else in the bathrooms. It was midweek and the hotel was slow. All the bathrooms looked clean. The hotel does not have AC and rarely needs it but on our trip it was in the mid 90’s during the day and the room was still warm at night. You read a lot about the train being so close to the hotel (it’s almost right across the street). The train is not too loud but the whistle that blows (4 times each train) is LOUD as can be. We had 6 trains the first night and two the second. Being right in town does mean you can just walk to the local restaurants and bars which is convenient. The wi-fi was plenty fast and dependable. Breakfast each morning was basic: coffee, juice, tea, bread, yogurt, fruit and muffins. It was fine for us but it’s worth mentioning that there is no elevator and the steps are steep. If your room is on the third floor, this might be an issue if you have heavy luggage. One thing we did not like is you have to pay for parking during the day in the town of Truckee; it’s not much but it’s a pain. I would consider staying here again because of the lower prices for room without showers.

Room Tip: No elevator, you might want to avoid top floor

The Hotel itself is nice enough, very small room but very clean and very comfortable bed. However the noise level from outside was HORRIBLE!!! Our room was on the second floor with the windows opening up to the front of the hotel. The Grill and Bar across the street had a Bluegrass band playing until well after midnight, it was so loud we could have sung along, the hooting and clapping sounded like the people were at the foot of our bed. The balcony on the second floor was host to a group smoking and drinking until about 2 am, the chairs they sat in were just outside our windows. We would not recommend this hotel to anyone unless you were attending a show across the street. We will never return!

I have stayed twice at the Truckee Hotel; both time was enjoyable. The hotel has history, charm and a great location. The front desk is always welcoming and helpful. For example, the first year the desk helped me successfully plan an excursion using the area bus system. The hotel offers a continental style breakfast in the morning. The rooms are all different. The first room I had was toward the back on the second floor. The second time I was in the front on the third floor. Both were European style. Each was very functional and had a great bed. Overall, I stayed 3 nights. Each was comfortable and offered a good sleep. I will warn, ol' Truckee is a railroad town. The train does run, morning, afternoon and evening...if you are a light sleeper be warned you may hear a train at night. The share baths are clean, functional and plentiful. I've never waited or felt rushed.

I definitely will return to the Truckee Hotel.

Room Tip: I like second floor...there is no elevator. But the second floor has a great common area and balcon...

Room deathly hot. Screens on only 1 of 3 windows so bugs got in
Hotel has 150 year old steam heat system. Heat was on so riser pipes were very hot and made the whole hotel sweltering. We could not sleep. It was like being in NYC in summer without AC. Even with windows open and fan going we could not cool room. Heat finally went off around 12am but it took 2 hours to cool down. You get the idea
That said, the manager gave us a credit and was apologetic. He said he runs heat as it gets down to 30 at night. It could have been the timing of heat was wrong. So ask before u stay here
Otherwise its a funky old hotel. Room was clean. New mattress. Probably fine for winter stay especially if it's really cold
