Description: A quintessentially British public house, serving local ale, and home cooked food. We have stunning views of Silbury hill, and we are walking distance from the Avebury stones, making us a perfect resting point to take in this glorious countryside.

This is a Wadworth managed house but apparently the menu is set by the manager and approved by the brewery. The management couple therefore have real ownership of their food offering and it shows. They were away the day we had lunch but you would not have known it. Ciabata rolls were warm and generously filled ( crayfish & rocket , marinated grilled lamb), the terrine was very good and home made and the desserts delicious (espresso creme brulee, and a pecan fudge brownie both served with first rate salted caramel ice cream). Good coffee and spotless loos rounded it all off! We will return.

We went for Sunday lunch and when they asked our drinks order I asked... What lagers do you have? She replied ... You will be better off going to have a look because I don't know.. She answered this whilst scratching the hell out of her head! Which she did a lot in between bringing dinners out, the door to the kitchen was awful.. See photo.
The beef I could not cut and we we're served frozen roast potatoes, the veg was three cubes of carrot and some leeks.. Not worth having.
It needs new staff and a good clean, I am surprised they have not been reported before and closed down.
Won't be going again !

We ate there today and were most disappointed. The food took a long time to come (fine if it's worth waiting for...but it wasn't). The plates were cold, so the food cooled quickly and just was riddiculously bland? I had belly pork with mash and apple jus and it just tasted of nothing at all. The crackling was like rubber, the pork didn't even really taste like pork and you wouldn't have told it was apple jus if you'd had your eyes closed. It had no flavour at all. The smoked haddock mornay pasta was the same - all you could taste was the pasta and a very, very subtle flavour of fish. the cottage pie was okay, but was very over priced. Not at all child friendly menu, though they did have high chairs. Hadn't been for quite a while and will definitely not be rushing back - a shame :(

What a great place to stop for a drink, we didn't however enjoy our main courses which was a shame. We would definitely drop in if we were driving past again but only for a drink.
