“Good food and atmosphere”

All three of us had different meals and all were good including pasta, fish and chicken. The person who lives in Ukiah comes for the fish.

“Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

From the outside, the Ukiah Garden Café doesn't look like much: a non-descript building next to a pretty grungy looking hotel. What a surprise! Very spacious on the inside, softly lit, with big booths with slightly deco-style backs. Potted plants scattered around. Cream color walls with a burgundy ceiling, giving it the feel of an old-fashioned steak/chop house. There is a separate bar that is quiet and dark, with soft blue lights behind the bar. The woman at the bar makes an excellent martini. The bartender and the 2 waiters we saw all have similar features, so we guessed everyone there is family. The service was friendly, attentive without being intrusive.
We shared a blue cheese salad, and it was wonderful, with mixed greens, tomatoes, beets, onions and a nicely tangy blue cheese dressing. My wife skeptically ordered the bacon-wrapped filet mignon. She was skeptical because for $24 for an 8 ounce filet she was worried that either it wouldn't be a genuine filet, or that it would be poor quality meat. Her fears were completely unfounded. It was a perfectly cooked, very flavorful filet. Maybe not quite butter-knife tender, but very, very good. She said her baked potato was crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside. I had a 14 ounce rib-eye, which would have been a good value at $23 even if it wasn't so incredibly delicious, but it was. Well marbled, great deep beef flavor, and also very well trimmed. The rice I ordered seemed to have been cooked in chicken broth, a nice touch. Both of us enjoyed the lightly sautéed spring vegetables. Our only "complaint" was that we had no room for the homemade cheesecake for dessert. This has got to be the best restaurant in Ukiah, maybe in the valley.

“Great place with excellent service.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 October 2013

This is a long established restaurant. We were there on a Friday night about 6, and the place was half full. By the time we left there were people waiting. There were lots of locals. The menu is varied and what we had was well prepared. In spite of being very busy the staff was upbeat, smiling and acting like they enjoyed what they were doing. The place was a little noisy, but it was because everyone was having a good time and enjoying themselves.
