Best Western Orchard Inn
Ranked #7 of 15 Hotels in Ukiah
Reviewed 23 July 2012

Our family has come to trust in the Best Western experience for the quality of room. This one lived up to that. After checking out another inn we appreciated this one! Bonus was a bigger fridge than usual. The first desk clerk provided excellent service; the one who took over, not so much. He left us waiting for towels in the lobby in our bathing suits for at least 5 minutes. Could he not have put the caller on hold while he quickly got them for us? The breakfast was not up to BW usual standard. The hot food was cold & poor quality. I enjoyed the pool; the temperature was just right. Missed having an elevator.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms are quieter, just be prepared to haul your luggage up the stairs.

We spent the night here on our way down to San José. The room was comfortable. The kids were very disappointed with the pool. It wasn't heated and located on the east side (shady side) of the building, so they became cold quite quickly. There weren't enough towels for them to dry off. The pool area was noisy, too, as it is right beside the freeway. That said, the room (ground floor) was quiet and any traffic didn't bother us during the night. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of space for all of us (family of 5, with our youngest in a porta-crib). The Wi-Fi reception in the room wasn't very strong. Breakfast was typical and good.

Checked in here on a trip down CA. We had a lot of luggage and they offered us a smaller room than we'd booked on the lower floor because they have no elevator. We decided to stick with our original room choice when we were informed that the room was near a stairway. It was not and when we got there the toilets did not work. They moved us to another room on the upper floor, also far away from the stairs. Here the air conditioning did not cool adequately. The cooling fan kept cutting out every minute or so- high thermostat setting? There was no thermostat in the room to control the a/c. The parking lot was also pretty full and it was difficult to park close to an entrance. Positives- good breakfast, reasonable price, clean room. Negatives- problems with bathrooms, bad air conditioning. An average experience for Best Westerns.

We generally enjoy the Best Western chain. This one - not so much.

I love the warm cookies upon arrival and Dan at the front desk was great.

We had a room on the lower floor the first night. We could hear the TV next door, despite having the air conditioner cranked. I was woken up by creaking floorboards around 5:30 am. Couldn't fall back asleep. Not fun, but it happens. That next morning I asked if we could be moved to a room on the 2nd floor to avoid hearing the people above us again. They were cool about it and said they found us a room on the 2nd floor. We came back that afternoon and checked into that room, but the A/C wasn't cold (and it was about 95° in Ukiah). We left it on for about an hour, but, nothing. The fridge also didn't work. They moved us to another room on the 2nd floor, but same thing!! Daniel apologized and said he'd personally check out the next room and make sure everything worked and it did. He also knocked a few bucks off of our bill, which helped a little bit.

The room itself was great - spacious, clean, six pillows of varying fluffiness on the King bed - all good stuff. The TV was modern, they had blackout shades, a desk to sit at. We didn't hear any of our neighbors.

Neither day were there towels at the hot tub. And the hot tub only really had one jet that worked. So, it was mostly a hot bath. The pool was pretty cold and there were lots of dead bugs, but a quick jump-in was necessary due to the heat.

The breakfast was pretty much, eh. They had scrambled eggs, sausages, little hash brown wedges, 4 different cereals to choose from, apples, bananas, little bagels, some bread - it's not a BAD group of things to choose from, but, nothing was really that great. I had some eggs that I couldn't finish, the apple juice was OK I guess. I don't really stay there for the breakfast, so it's pretty much what I expected, but, that was my experience with it.

Based on my experience, I wouldn't go back, but others give it pretty good reviews...

Frsh baked cookies when we arrived, clean gorgeous rooms. The front desk guy was the most helpful person. They even had a corkscrew for us to use for our wine we bought on the way up via Sonoma.

I have stayed at the property several times. It is near the highway 101. But, double pane windows keep the noise out. I love the pool and hot tub for relaxing with a cigar after a long drive.

The warm cookies in the lobby are a nice touch. The staff is always friendly and professional.

The rooms are always clean, comfortable, and well appointed for this three diamond mid level property.

Free parking and close stores and food are nice too.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone on business or pleasure. Free WiFi too.

Room Tip: There are three or four handicap parking places. That is good if you need them.
