“If you don't mind sleeping on a sponge.... go ahead and make the reservation”
Reviewed 27 December 2011

I am very disappointed at my stay at this place. All the pictures and reviews convinced me to give this place a try instead of booking residence inn this time. The place overall is very nice and almost brand new. We reserved a a two bedroom suite for two nights. Once we settled down and suddenly realized one of the bed rooms smelled like cat urine. This is not the biggest problem for us. The worst part is the bed. The beds are like water bed. We feel like sinking in to a deep sponge. Next day, we had severe neck and shoulder pain....... We had to check out for the second night in Residence inn in Rancho Bernado, which never disappointed us.

Room Tip: This is a pet friendly hotel. Please check if the room smells first, before you settle down.

Dear Mary G.,

I would like to thank you for your honest and constructive feedback regarding your recent stay with us.

When it comes to the odor you speak of I honestly do not know what to say but to apologize. After a pet has stayed in a room we have a standard procedure for cleaning those rooms to put them back to normal.

Regarding the beds I am sorry and surprised that you and your family found them uncomfortable. Our beds are actually upgraded above the normal TownePlace Suites beds and we often get rave reviews about their comfort and have on several occasions had inquires from guests regarding where to procure our mattresses. However, we all have different backs with different needs and although we can unfortunately not accommodate everyone with the same mattress I am sorry they were not up to your standards.

Once again I want to thank you for your feedback and if you decide to give us a second chance please let me personally assist you with your accommodation needs.

Best Regards,
Chris Johnson

We stayed here for three days while our house was being tented. The kitchen (and rooms) are pretty tiny but designed really efficiently. Kitchen had plates, etc. everything we needed to heat food when we didn't feel like going out. There was a free continental style breakfast put out daily. There is a coffee shop in the parking lot should you need designer coffee, but there was often fresh coffee made in the lobby. We were scheduled to stay here two days then move to another Marriott for one day but we were so comfortable we decided to stay. The staff not only arranged for my rooms to be extended but cancelled my other hotel reservation for me. They helped me with anything I asked, and did it with a smile! There is not much to do within walking distance however there is a lot of new construction being finished up across the road.

Room Tip: This hotel has small rooms but has one and two bedrooms available

Amazing use of space. We chose this hotel due to location between my mom's house in Fallbrook and the beach in Carlsbad (a few miles away). Looks like it's geared toward business travelers due to having a large workstation with file drawers, a kitchen with utensils, pots/pans, fridge, etc.., very comfortable bed and pillows, and normal bathroom but with great storage. They have snacks available in the lobby, small but useful workout center, pool. Adjacent to a small park and streets with wide sidewalks if you are a walker or jogger. Nearby grocery stores. Starbucks in same parking lot. Nail/waxing salon in same parking lot. Super convenient. Employees were very friendly both at the front desk or even just walking past you in the hallway.

A nice small hotel run by Mariott so you are sure to still have Mariott standards. The rooms have kitchenettes - a great plus. Continental breakfast was good. Cookies at the lobby upon check in. Staff are friendly and accomodating.

We visited this hotel in August of 2010...and it typified every quality of a newly constructed home: too small, too expensive, too glitchy, and barren surroundings

The positives were ... well... it was new. No old stains or weird smells. The negatives were it was overpriced for the size. It was SURPRISINGLY SMALL...almost comically small. We booked a one bedroom suite (a wall separating the bedroom from the common area). I was expecting a Residence Inn type experience. This was NO WHERE NEAR what a Residence Inn 1-bedroom suite looks like. Just basically an oversized standard room with a PAPER-THIN wall separating the space. One bathroom, one very small pull-out sofa. Honestly, it was a pull-out loveseat. There was no dinette set, although there was a full kitchen...so I thought that was an odd omission. There was a built in desk and wall shelf with a rolling desk chair and a small ottoman with a breakfast tray on top.

I wouldn't trust eating off of the dishses without running them through a cycle because my coffee cup had fresh stains when I took it out of the cabinet. DISTURBING.

They really skimped on the necessities. We ran out of toilet tissue and the next day, we figured housekeeping would replace the roll. They did not. We just used the kleenex. I had to request soap. A family with teens and a hotel sized sliver of a bar of soap NEVER cuts it. The continental breakfast was disappointing at best.

Also, as we were ironing our clothes...the circuit went out in the room. We had to find the circuit box (located in the room) and flip switches until we found the right one.

The Front Desk was very friendly, helpful, and apologized....a lot.

And, by the way, the one photo on the page was wrong. It's a pretty unappealing property with nothing nearby. If we'd have looked for hotels sooner, things may not have been sold out everywhere else!

Good Afternoon Perchper,

I find it very unfortunate that you did not enjoy your stay with us this past summer.

Being a new property which had been open for approximately a month I will admit there were a few glitches (weak breakers, employee training) which we have to date gladyl overcome.

Our onebedroom suites offer over 500 square feet of comfortable living space so I find it unfortunate that you still found them too small.

Since your stay the photos for our property have been updated and our hotel has received recognition for its extra architectual details compared to a standard TownePlace Suites.

During the time of your stay breakfast was not a mandatory offering at TownePlace Suites hotels but in an attempt to better serve our customers, as noted, a breakfast option was served. We will now also offer warm food options for breakfast and in the next month or so we will also offer a complimentary hospitality reception with beer and wine a few nights a week. We pride ourselves in taking these few extra steps to offer more than the bare minimums to our guests.

With that said, I would ask you stop by our hotel next time you are in the area where you can now enjoy a coffee at the Starbucks which is accross the parking, or a margarita and some Mexican food in the newly finished Mexican restaurant.

Best Regards,
