Ibis Sydney Olympic Park

My husband and I stayed here for the Michael Buble concert on 17th May 2014. The hotel is a short 5min walk to Allphones Arena and directly opposite ANZ stadium making it a great location for concerts and sporting events. We arrived early at the hotel just over an hour before the required check in time of 2pm and had no problem checking in that bit earlier with reception. The receptionist was accommodating with our room as we requested the highest level. The hotel has 6 levels and we stayed in room 603 with great views of Sydney skyline in the distance, the train station and beautiful parklands. The room itself was small and so was the bathroom. But it suited our needs. It was clean and had a comfy bed. Before the concert we had drinks at the brewery which is located downstairs and had a nice vibe. After the concert we headed to the lobby bar for drinks as the Brewery was closed. There is a McDonalds, Gloria Jeans and subway located on the ground/street level however they where closed after the concert at 11.30pm. I would stay again, it was expensive to stay due to the concert being on, but we don't go to many concerts and it was worth it for piece of mind and convenience.

Room Tip: Our room was 603 and had great views.

Husband and I stayed at Sydney Olympic Park on Saturday 10th May 2014 to attend the Michael Buble' concert at the Allphones Arena.
Location is convenient but that's about it!!
Started with the confusing parking areas - the car park is also for guests for the Pullman and Novotel hotels - but there was no clear signage - so going to reception with luggage had to turn around and move car to another area for the Ibis.
The Ibis reception area is very nice - the staff were "pleasant" - but didnt give any information until I asked. The direction to the lifts to our room was a point of the finger!!!
We stayed in room 109 which had a view of a roof of the floor below, tops of palm trees and the car park.
The room is VERY small as was the bathroom. No information provided in the room of local interests, site seeing etc.
The TV reception was terrible - when finally worked out the remote!!
The air conditioner didn't work at all!!!!
Queen size room booked for 2 people - only 1 spare pillow?

After a look around the area - we returned to the Brassiere to have a drink. The service was less than impressive - there was 3 people at the bar and my husband waited 30 minutes to purchase a beer and a wine - another couple sitting near us ordered double on their second order so wouldn't have to wait again....

After the concert - we returned to the Hotel to have a snack/drink - nothing was open - at 1110pm after such a popular artists' concert!!!
A sausage sizzle :( or Gloria Jeans Coffee were the only eating places open. Doorman suggested we get in a cab and go to Parramatta 10 mins away........ - crazy!!!

Our stay included a prepaid buffet breakfast. We waited in line for 45 minutes for a table - yes it was busy, yes there was a lot of people, were people getting angry - certainly were!!!
Why weren't more staff rostered on for the number of people booked into the hotel??
There was no organisation - tables were empty!! Why weren't couples given the option to sit at a four seat table with another couple!!?? This option wasn't given ??
A party of 3 behind us - were given a 4 seat table - the 4 couple in front of us and the 2 couples behind us - had to wait for a 2 seat table - work that out!!!!
AND - not one person apologised for the wait.
Then ...... had to wait 15 minutes for a spoon to eat yogurt/cereal with................

We work very hard for our $ and don't get away from home very often due to busy lifestyle at home - to pay $262 (includes booking fee!!) a night PLUS $35 parking fee - we are very disappointed in our stay and expected a lot more.

The following 2 nites we stayed at the Novotel at Darling Harbour for next 2 nights - couldn't fault it. Staff were friendly and helpful - even suggested eating places, and sights (that wouldn't cost a fortune), transport etc (and didn't even ask) .
Paid $435.50 including booking fee!! ($215 per night!!!!!! ) + parking was still cheaper than the Ibis.
Breathtaking views over darling Harbour, 5 minute walks to China Town, Darling Harbour, ferries - list goes on.

Would I stay at Ibis Olympic park again?? Would I recommend to friends - NO WAY.!!!

Dear GIngram1351,

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay with us at Ibis Sydney Olympic Park. It is with great disappointment to read that your experience on this occasion was below expectations. I sincerely apologize that we did not provide you and your husband with a memorable experience from check-in to check out.

Unfortunately the hotel was extremely busy on this particular weekend and this resulted in long delays at the bar and for breakfast. I am extremely sorry that we particularly fell short in delivering a strong customer service.

I can assure you we have identified staffing as being a huge factor in our guests overall experience and have put in place more careful roster measures for future events.

Thank you again for your feedback and I hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future to show you this is not our normal level of experience.

Kind Regards

Tara Crisafi

We used this hotel as our base when visiting the Royal Easter Show at Easter this year. Our room, on the fifth floor, was clean and comfortable. The only issue we had was that the air conditioning didn't appear to work, but it didn't really affect our stay. The hotel was very busy during our stay and check in/check out was slow, but the staff were friendly and efficient. We only ate breakfast in the restaurant, but there was a good choice of food and it was all delicious. I would definitely recommend this hotel and will stay again next Easter.

Room Tip: Our room, #524, at the end of the corridor was nice and quiet.

Dear Vicki S,

Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay with us during the Easter Show. We definitely have an excellent location based a short walk down from the show gates. It is pleasing to read you overall enjoyed your time with us and especially found our staff friendly and efficient. I am sorry however to read the air conditioner didn’t work properly but am pleased this didn’t affect your overall time with us. I will share all your feedback with our team.

We look forward to welcoming you back for another enjoyable experience!

Kind regards

We stated at this hotel when we travelled to watch the mighty Magpies compete against the Sydney Swans. Its location is perfect for fans who want close proximity to the matches played at the ANZ stadium as the stadium is a two minute walk from the hotel. Access from the airport was easy using the train system as there is a train station situated close to the hotel. Check in was easy and quick and we were pleased we could access our room earlier than the usual time. The room was quite small, as was the bathroom but both were very clean and we were in the room basically to sleep so it met our needs. We paid extra for the buffet breakfast but I would not recommend it as I thought it was quite expensive and there was no egg station so limited choice of egg dishes. (I have been spoilt at other hotels!) Overall, a good choice for a one night stay for the footy but I would not choose to stay here for a longer stay.
