“Shorebird #5 is perfect!”
Reviewed 30 November 2012

Pajaro Dunes is an amazingly serene and relaxing experience. Very calm, beautiful. The unit was spotless. Even had an outdoor BBQ and all the pots/pans/dishes needed for our big group of 8. We all had fun and it was literally steps to the sand. This unit has a gorgeous view of the ocean from the deck, and the view from the livingroom is of the state park next door. No other condos can be seen. We all loved the services available from the Pajaro Dunes company, including a small quaint store, a cute nature center, duck pond, tennis courts, and they will even help you make a beach fire. Fun for the whole family, lots to do in the area. Best place in CA to sit and have a glass of wine on the patio while your children play on the beach. We will be back many times!

Room Tip: Shorebirds 5 has no stairs and no annoying view of other condos. Right on the sand. Great for childr...

Spent 4 nights midweek at Shorebirds (unit #209) and it was truly just what I needed in the sense of quiet relaxation. This is a ground floor unit with dune views however it provides easy access without having to go up and down stairs. Beach access is just a few feet away and the complex itself has a beautiful nature trail around a small pond. Unit 209 appeared to be recently renovated with granite counters, new kitchen appliances, wonderful new bathrooms with large showers and the best equipped kitchen!
Unfortunately I needed to stay connected and work while here and the internet access worked perfectly, and the unit had a nice desk area where I could lay out my temporary office.
We had mostly cool and overcast weather during our stay but it was just what I was looking for in taking long morning walks and afternoon explorations along the beach.
I really enjoyed my stay at Pajero Dunes and especially unit #209. If I had to say anything I would just recommend that they look into replacing the back patio furniture as it was severely rusted and looked dangerous to sit in. I understand that salty ocean air is so hard on everything but perhaps some nice Adirondack chairs from home depot would work nicely.

Room Tip: Ask about midweek specials.

Spent a week at Pelican Point at Pajaro Dunes, and it was lovely. The unit (Pelican 44) was a beach view...well maintained, clean and with all the amenities necessary for an extended stay. The beach is beautiful. Depending on the weather you'll either have spectacular views of the Pacific & Monterey Bay, or a wall of fog. We were here the first week of September and about 3/4 of the week, the coast was fogged in. Travel a few miles north and sunshine/blue skies. I'm told from the locals that this is a regular occurrence, but it didn't spoil any part of the vacation. The fact is you are right on the beach and if it suits you, you can sleep to the sounds of the waves just outside your window.

As for the location, be aware that there is nothing for miles. The closest town center, Watsonville, had your basics: some fast food places, super market, etc. but was not a tourist town by any stretch of the imagination. Santa Cruz and Capitola are 25-30 minutes northwest of Pajaro, and Monterey, Pacific Grove, and Carmel are 25-30 southeast. As long as you are OK with driving in either direction for restaurants, attractions and nightlife, you'll be fine staying here. (The benefit being staying ON the beach in a quiet, gated community with your own condo/home)

Travel to San Francisco will be approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes if you'd like to do a day trip. You'll also be within 1 hour's drive to San Jose.

Make sure to check out the redwoods at Henry Cowell State Park about 30 minutes north...

If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing beach getaway and would like to have your own place, I recommend a rental at Pajaro Dunes. Note that there are multiple agencies handling rentals...so do your due diligence when reserving.

Food tip: Want amazingly fresh fruit & vegetables? Travel about 10 minutes south on CA-1 to Moss Landing for excellent deals on local produce.

Room Tip: Select a second or third floor unit for best views. Don't worry about steps...there are ramps to...

We rented one of the Cypress condominiums at Pajaro Dunes for a family vacation. One of the larger ones, with five bedrooms. I was worried because it was a "second row" condo, and I thought that this meant that it was on the other side of the road from the beach. Wrong! It was only set back 20 or so feet further from the beach than the "first row" condos.

We had an excellent stay. The beach is very uncrowded - just a few hundred feet down from the state park, and it was funny that more people didn't move down our way. The state park section was crowded on the weekend, and parking at the park was impossible. We were right next to that, and hardly anyone was there. And we drove past all the crowded parking to get to the condo, where we had all the parking we needed (we had three cars, and no problem finding a place.

The staff was very efficient and courteous. The condo was clean and nicely furnished, even with a big screen tv to watch the soccer games. I can't find any fault OTHER than the spotty receiption for the wifi devices (too bad we had to have some of them...)

I just stayed here for a romantic Valentine's Day weekend and had a really wonderful time. I hadn't heard of the place before but it is in a beautiful and quiet area only about 20 minutes from Monterey and Carmel.
The unit, Pelican 67, was clean and spacious and well equipped. It would be a great place to come with another couple or your family. We sat out on the balcony and watched the waves crash and woke up to a view of the ocean every morning from the master bedroom. It was so relaxing! Our days were mostly spent down the coast but we were able to stop at the store in Watsonville and cook dinner as well which was a great option. The condos seemed full of people but it was very quiet both day and night.
Sitting outside with a glass of wine listening to the waves never gets old! I will be back!

Spent a weekend here. The condos are beautiful, although the second bedroom is small and dark. The master overlooks the ocean with a patio door that allows you to hear the waves. The condos are well furnished and comfortable. Easy to walk down to the beach. Bring a flashlight for night times walks.

A newspaper is delivered daily--a nice touch.

Our meals were catered as this was a conference. The first dinner was positively mediocre but they improved a lot after that.

Don't miss any opportunity to walk on the beach, collect sand dollars, build sandcastles and spot sea lions or dolphins.

Although we wanted the bigger ocean views that the upper floors have, my elderly parents needed to be on the ground floor, but we were not disappointed, you could see the ocean while sitting on the deck, or from the kitchen & living room, and it is literally just steps out to the beach. Spacious, with nice decor, and everything you need for a nice stay, the kitchen was well stocked with plenty of pots & pans, dinnerware, etc. Great place, we will be back!!
