“Would stay here again!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 September 2011

I rented this room a few miles from my sister's house because she was having a large party and the house was very busy. I stayed here with my husband and other sister to have a nice quiet place to sleep. We were so happy we chose the Hampton Inn. The room was large and the beds were very comfy. It was nice to get a great cup of coffee and a little something to eat in the morning. The front office staff was very pleasant upon check in and check out. I would highly recommend staying here to anyone needing a room in West Sacramento!

The folks at this Hampton Inn were nice enough to donate a gift certificate for one free night's stay, to a local non-profit organization for their silent auction. I was the lucky winner and used the certificate as a special treat to myself on my birthday. The room was very clean and comfortable, but I would have liked if there had been a refrigerator and microwave. The television channel selection was pretty poor (do I really need THREE ESPN stations?), but most hotels are about the same in that regard. Good customer service. Continental breakfast was a bit better than the standard, but not fabulous (included a few hot items (eggs, tater tots). Wish they had offered soy milk in addition to the dairy, but nobody ever does.
The pool was great. clean, buoyant, and warm without strong chlorine, and open till 10pm.

This Hampton has an ideal location, close to the airport, IKEA, freeway, and downtown Sac, and is not too far from UC-Davis either. The price was reasonable, given that other hotels near the airport charge at least fifteen dollars more per night. The hotel is updated, with good colors and wide hallways. Parking was easy, even at night.

The room was perfectly fine; it was arranged differently, which we liked, with a just-right K bed with bright-white duvet, proper bedside lighting, desk with fast-enough internet, satisfactory cable, and a bench at the end of the bed - a nice touch. The bathroom was huge, with good water pressure, walk-in shower, and a little nook for coffee and tea fixings. We never heard our neighbors. Front desk reps were friendly and efficient at check-in.

Here is the reason for the downgrade: This Hampton would have received a mark of 4 or 5 if it weren't for the unexpectedly horrendous breakfast. We spent a good 20 minutes in the dining area (which, by the way, is very cute, well-lit, just across from the front desk, with many tables along with an immense bar-type seating station) -- and never once saw anyone taking care of the food or area.

What was left of some sort of egg-and-cheese-on-bagels was melting together in the warmer. Instead of bacon, there was a warming vat of half-inch bacon grease - pretty gross. Only two yogurts remained in a bowl of ice. Muffins were few, looked old, and felt hard. We poured some cereal and began to pour milk, when a German guest warned us not to drink it (he was right; we smelled it -- warm and absolutely sour). All this at 8:30 am, with a good hour to go for the breakfast time.

We had hoped to bring the problems to the attention of the front desk, but no one was available. We waited a few minutes before a young lady appeared; she was friendly, but because we had a plane to catch and she appeared to be alone (and therefore unable to control the dining area and food in addition to the front desk), we chose to simply check out.

While the hotel room, structure, and location rank well for its class, its breakfast that morning (September 3, 2011) was clearly not up to Hilton standards. Maybe something tragic happened to the breakfast manager and the remaining staff were doing the best they could... But as everyone in customer service knows, you only have one chance to make a good first impression. As a Hilton Honors member, I am sad to say we will select a different hotel in Sac next time.

We have stayed at Hampton Inn in West Sacramento many times. We always get a King Suite. We prefer the 4th floor so you can avoid any noise from above and a room away from the freeway all though the noise from the freeway is minimal. It is that way in all hotels so we always prefer a room on the top floor and away from the traffic. When we travel we prefer the Hampton Inns because they all have the same standards. Rooms are always very clean. The king bed is very comfortable and with the King Suite, there is a nice sofa and chair to relax in. Breakfast is standard but forefills our needs. The West Sacramento location is about 3-4 miles by car to downtown Sacramento but easy to get too via freeway or surface streets. There are a couple of good restaurants in West Sacramento and usual fast food places, but there are many more in downtown Sacramento. IKEA store is about 2 blocks away and believe it or not has some great food at very resonable prices. Here are some of our favorites...

Restaurants in West Sacramento; Club Pheasant (Italian),

Restaurants downtown/oldtown Sacramento; Tower Cafe, Bernardos, Fat City, Joes Crab Shack, Esquire Grill, Spataros, Paraygarys Bar and Grill, and Cocinas Mexican Grill.
We use to live in Sacramento so we have eaten at all of these places many times.

The rooms (our trip started and ended in Sacramento) were clean and comfy, though a little cramped for hubby, teenage son, and me. Not an issue since we really only showered, slept, and breakfasted there. The dining area was more spacious and welcoming than some in this price range. The desk staff was friendly and helpful. The beds were soft but supportive, and the sheets were smoooth. Parking is sufficient, but the location is nothing special.

Had to upgrade to get a fridge in our room though we have stayed at other Hampton's in CA and thought this was not the case. Huge and very clean rooms! Very good hot breakfast with free parking and free shuttle to and from Sac. airport.

Checked in on Sunday March 13 for a 5 day stay. The clerk asked for a CC, our rooms were prepaid by our employer. Clerk said the card was needed for incidentals(long distance or guest store)no more than $50.00

Went to dinner Sunday night with coworkers, my card was declined. Called CC company, Hampton Inn charged $1,400.00 to my card, exceeding the limit and locking the card. Front desk claimed they called and faxed CC company and would be corrected, claimed management was involved.

I was unable to buy gas, food or medication, every day I received excuses. I was forced to wrap breakfast items and take them for lunch and dinner. Wednesday night I was told the card was fixed, I called CC company and was told "No one from Hampton Inn has contacted us." Finally spoke to manager, first time she she had heard of my problem. Manager reversed charge within 3 minutes.

Management is excellent, staff is incompetent, dishonest and untrustworthy.

Think twice before you hand them your credit card, my room was prepaid and it took 4 days of having no funds to reverse the charges.

Opened complaint with Hilton Corporate, problem to addressed yet.
