West Sacramento is not known for five star grub, but it seems like the scariest places you take a chance on in this burg never leave you disappointed. This place is a fine example. The exterior is a cobbled, single story brick building from three or four generations earlier when this area of town was indeed called Broderick and rough and tumble. You slip into the front door with need of a miner's helmet with choice of small bar area and slightly larger dining room for seating. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The menu is Costco style with few choices, BUT it is clear that the basic American fair is loaded with thought and quality management. Hamburgers, fries, mac n cheese, salads, vegetarian menu, and beverages. My hubby and I came in for burgers. Speaking for my meal experience, I got their basic burger dish for $10 and I could barely finish it. Large amounts. The meat was broiled perfectly to my taste, the lettuce was green and fresh, the pickles on it...which I don't usually go for...were out of this world and not from an industrial can. Napkins and utensils come to you via a tin can. Cute touch. The check comes to you via a jar. Practical. Waitresses don't bug you, but are ready with refills of your beverage. There are a few barflies, but many more families and quiet conversations. Bathrooms are clean albeit ancient. Not a first date venue, but a wonderful place to relax and wattle out satisfied. Would highly suggest not having your annual blood work done after this experience! In fact, wait a week and drink lots of water! Charming, full of character, money and time well spent!
