I travel to California several times per year for business. Hands down, this is my favourite hotel to stay at. I say this based on a combination of the hotel itself, price, and location.

This is a standard Hyatt (not a Grand Hyatt or Regency). It is a standard hotel that would be on par with a Marriott (above a Hilton for sure). Over the past 5 years I have seen the rooms be renovated 3x (two minor, 1 major overhaul). The restaurant is very good too. The room is above average in size, the bathroom is typical for a hotel over 10 years old (small, but well appointed).

You can't beat the neighbourhood for safety and security (after all you are in good company in Westlake / 1000Oaks - Wayne Gretzky lives here!). You are right on the 101 too.

I typically pay $150 per night although it does fluctuate up/down a bit as would be expected. This is a popular place so be sure to make a reservation a few weeks ahead of time.

The outdoor pool/spa are decent, but not spectacular.

As a frequent traveler(bi monthly) to the Hyatt I have come to see the hyatt as my second home. I primarily stay with them for the hyatt points as this is definetly on the low end of the hyatt chain.

Pros
Nice location with walking access to some great resterants
Nice courtyard and pool
Generally attentive staff
Room service and food

Cons
Smell..stale/moldy smell in all rooms
Not all rooms regulate temperature very well
Beds are old and hard, would like to see them invest as other chains have done in nice beds
Outdated and aging interior

They will have a difficlut time staying compitive if they don't upgrade.

Stayed August 21-23, 2005 at Priceline rate--which was less than half quoted by Hyatt. Had a very comfortable, spacious, and clean room with king-size bed. Area was very quiet during our stay. Room decor was very fine--and lobby was excellent. Staff was very friendly. Easy parking. Grounds were neat, but pool looked lacking. Located off of highway 101, and close to Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village shopping and restaurants. However, didn't like paying $1.00 for a local call.

I was pleasantly surprised with my experience at the Hyatt after reading some of the not-so-good reviews here. I only stayed one night (Friday) and left early the next morning, so it was a brief stay. The staff was very nice and attentive. Nothing special about the room but it was clean and quiet. I felt safe there and walking around the shopping area. As was mentioned in other reviews, there was a "party" from 6-10 pm by the pool. I thought it was great: Free admission for the hotel guests, good reggae music, tasty food to purchase. I left early and didn't hear a thing from my room even though the party still raged on until about 10. IF you want to go to bed early, ask for a room away from the pool. The hotel is also convenient to the freeway, but I didn't hear any traffic either.

We only discovered after check in that the pool was out of bounds until around June 05. Not a good start to the weekend.
Hotel has an old fashioned and outdated appearance although the room was comfortabl;e and clean. Lobby internet was defective and nobody bother to place an out of use sign on it - we saw a number of guests trying to use it without success.
We felt this was an average hotel where management did not really try very hard.
Enjoyed an excellent meal at Marmalade Restaurant on the Promenade about a 5 minute walk from the hotel

I just completed a stay at the Hyatt Westlake Village. The public areas are attractive with fountains and seating areas. However, the rooms are bare bones, run-of- the-mill accomodations which featured standard bedding and small bathrooms. There is definitely audible traffic noise from the rooms near the highway. Closing the drapes at night muffled the sounds considerably. I opted for a weekend rate of $99 which included breakfast. I only visited the restaurant for breakfast which was served buffet style and was tasty. I am pleased that I opted for the free breakfast hotel rate as the breakfast for two would have been $27. The view into the gardens from the restaurant was appealing. The service at the hotel was not engaging with the customers. I was not greeted by the valet or any other staff I encountered in the hallways. This hotel seems to cater to the convention crowd (there was one going on this weekend) and forgoes personal service. The lodging options are limited in this area so competition does not keep management "on their toes".

I stayed here in February... it was a nice, quiet hotel with great access to the freeway. My room and the workout area were clean and decently appointed. There was a free paper in the morning and lots of TV channels, but no free internet access anywhere. There is a great outdoor market-type mall across the freeway.
