“It keeps getting better and better”

My wife and I started going to Wilbur 35 years ago. However it had been 4 years since our last visit. Astonishingly place keeps getting better without loosing the original magic. Wilbur is special because it is so peaceful: no 60cycle hum, no cars near the hotel, no loud talking except in the kitchen, only music comes from real people on real instruments, and no neighbors for miles.

Bathing area is nude but about half the people had suits on. Which is unfortunate because the distinction may make the naked people uncomfortable. However this place is not a "scene". There are no pick ups or any unwanted contact at all. In fact there is hardly any talking in the bathing area and none at all in the hot baths. My wife is planning a solo return trip.

It is expensive but since you bring and prepare your own food and there are no other costs the total ends up being reasonable. This is not a luxury resort with towels, room service, tipping, bars, or shoes. It is immaculate, careful attention to craft and detail, aware of its hippy roots, safe, and beautiful.

Room Tip: All rooms are different, so ask the reservation clerk. Most share a bathroom. Study the website and...

Want silence, clean organic hot springs in the most beautiful setting just a couple of hours from SF???? Want to soak all night without anyone bothering you?? Then this is your sanctuary!

Wilbur is a very unique setting. The pools are extraordinarily clean, toasty and without chemicals. The sauna and outdoor showers are comfortable and lovely. Plenty of shade, lawn and sun spots for all that your heart desires. Yoga deck, sweet camping spots, or a cozy bed in the historic hotel make your stay phenomenal....well and the caretakers who not only take care of the grounds... but take care of YOU! Oh! ... and did I mention the kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to make a wholesome dinner...

Don't want to talk or experience cruisers.... come to the renowned hot springs that is Wilbur. There are plenty of incredible trails to walk or hike... around the gorgeous grounds... in fact, hike to the new wishing tree and tie on your own dreams or bring an old windchime for everyone to enjoy in the windchime garden

You won't regret it!
PS.. .and its all affordable!

In most cases this resort type hotel does not offer Breakfast even for an additional price. There are a limited number of guest chef weekends at say $170 per person for 5 meals. Also the hotel description should say bring and cook your own since restaurants are quite a long trip.
With that exception, it is a heavenly rustic place. The price you pay suggests luxury but in this case the luxury part is beautiful grounds, isolation from city activity, above all the soaking pools and usually deep quiet relaxation. The rooms or the typical service is not at a luxury level.
Overall a unique memorable experience.

Room Tip: walls are thin; bath toilet facilities quite rustic; cell service is limited.

Here’s what we really liked about Wilbur Springs:
1- The water is, especially in the river, beautiful (see picture). In the pools it is silky and soothing. It smells of sulfur, but not overwhelmingly, and the smell washed off our bodies nicely.
2- The 5 pools are different temperatures and moods. The covered area with the 3 flumes is meant as a quiet, relaxing experience. One flume was 98º (nice, but left me wanting warmer), the middle one was 105º (perfect), the third was 109º (too hot for me for a long time). If you want to talk, there is an outside pool for that.
3- The yoga in the morning was wonderful. The class is under another covered deck, well above the pools, surrounded by nature. The teacher did a great job of dealing with all the different levels of ability in the class, and she really made the experience a continuance of the restorative effects of the hot spring.
4- Our walk in the nature preserve in the evening, then bike ride (Wilbur Springs has bikes for guests) in the morning beyond the hot-springs was lovely. Ask for a map at the front desk. We especially liked the geyser, wishing tree (see picture), wind chime memorial garden(see picture) (take a wind chime to put up and remember someone), the birds and animals, and eating lunch at the picnic table under the wind chimes.

What I wish:
1- I wish we had brought nice steaks and more food with us to take advantage of their wonderful kitchen. Each guest room has a corresponding large shelf area for dry goods and another in one of the many large refrigerators.
2- I wish they had had a women’s bath. OK, I’m spoiled from my visits to Japanese onsens where they always have beautiful women’s baths. Not everyone is comfortable being nude around strangers, and yet that IS the best way to experience the water. It was hard for me to totally relax, so I wore a suit much of the time.
3- I didn’t love their showers. But here again, I was comparing them to Japanese onsens’ showers which is not fair.
4- I wish we had stayed two nights. Rooms ARE overpriced as most people have said here in TripAdvisor, ($250 a night without toilet...) We WILL stay 2 nights next time.

We finally were able to stay at Wilbur on our way home from Southern California. It is only about 30 minutes off of Interstate 5, but decades away from the modern pace of life. We enjoyed the single bed room with bathroom and sink, a converted sun porch area that was quiet and comfortable.
The hot tubs and pool are comfortable with a variety of temperatures, so it is easy to find the spot for your preference. Clothing is optional only in the co-ed water areas- warm pool, hot flumes, and private shower area.
This resort is very relaxing, with pleasant people working the lodge. The guests all seemed very upbeat and relaxed.
I truly enjoyed the employees great spirit and the refreshing attitude of the other guests.
This is absolutely a wonderful place to enjoy old lodge charm and hot springs.
The well provisioned kitchen has all of the equipment to make the finest of meals, you cook what you bring. All you need to do is shop before you get there, to pick up the gourmet meal ingredients that you need, get your wine and beverages to bring along also. Pots and pans and dishes and utensils are plentiful. The kitchen is a large lodge style kitchen with gas stoves and ovens. You are responsible for cooking to your preference and washing and drying your dishes before returning them to the shelves. The kitchen has recycling bins and separate garbage and compost bins.
Check out their website for details and history. www.wilburhotsprings.com
Wine and alcoholic beverages are allowed anywhere on the property with the exception of the water/pools area. This provides guests the opportunity the peace and serenity that is offered in the water sanctuary, without disturbance.
Massage is available on site, reservations recommended. The quality of the massage is top notch and highly recommended.
The negatives are only that you should get reservations, the road access can be dicey on rainy wet days, mud can be a challenge to driving, and it is a little on the pricey side (worth it) especially when you include massage.
Please go and enjoy yourself, but don't tell anyone about what a great place it is.
FYI you are going to see naked people, don't be rude.

Room Tip: There are a wide range of rooms and sleeping options available, I prefer and private room with in ro...

As a lover of Hot Springs, I just can't stay away, even though it's over priced. Better than Harbin? Absolutely....no weird vibe and not over crowded. It's just great water in a serene, secluded, beautiful environment with nice facilities. I guess they know what they've got and what it's worth. If you love hot springs and have never tried Wilbur, don't miss it.

Room Tip: Beware most rooms don't have their own bathroom. Book early(!) to get one.
