“Hard to find, worth the look!”
Reviewed 19 July 2013 via mobile

While looking for a spot to grab a bite to eat on the way through Willits, we stopped in Safeway thinking we could buy food only to find it was a pharmacy only. The very nice lady behind the counter suggested we try the Loose Caboose, it was close, just a block up.

Well it was great. Located just around the corner from a burger place, it was full of locals and understandably so - the food was fantastic.

The menu was mostly sandwiches, but they also had salads and a whole selection of hotdogs as well. The variety was such that it satisfied a vegetarian in our group and at the other end of the spectrum the meat lover raved about the special - braised beef sandwich.

One word of caution - CASH ONLY, but they do have an ATM inside.

Also, for those who like to soak in the details, there's plenty to satisfy the curiosity, right down to the railway spike holding the toilet paper in place!

“Little Local Gem”
Reviewed 7 May 2013

Love their Southwest Chicken Salad and their soups are always amazing. This place is cozy, always busy and when you taste the food you will understand why. Their milkshakes are amazing - like the old fashioned ones of years ago!

“Great Deli Subs”
Reviewed 5 March 2013

This place has a funky vibe but don't let the appearance fool you, they make incredibly fresh deli subs. We had the Reuben (tasty corned beef) and the Railroad Combo (fresh cuts of turkey, ham, salami) both were excellent. Also, had a small bowl of South of the Border soup which is a really good mildly spicy chowder. They also serve beer and wine at reasonable prices. This very casual restaurant is open for lunch till 4pm and has mostly a younger crowd. It's also a bit hard to find just off main street, but would definitely recommend you try it. Just a note, they don't take credit cards, so bring cash.

“Second Time here”
Reviewed 16 November 2012

This is the second time we stopped here for lunch and were not disappointed. The food is very fresh and flavorfull, and portions are generous. The restaurant it self is kind of funky and the waitress we had this time was not overly attentive, but the lunch we had, made up for everything. A definate place to stop whenever we are in Willits.

“Great fresh sandwich”
Reviewed 5 November 2012

We picked up sandwiches from the Loose Caboose to take on the road to the coast with us and they were great. The turkey was the real deal and the sauce was great.
