Driving north from San Francisco we usually focus on the known cities to stay, ie, Santa Rosa, Calistoga, Healdsburg, Yountville, etc.. Stopped this trip in Windsor and what a pleasant surprise. The Holiday Inn Express located near the freeway, new, friendly, and the staff was extremely knowledgeable about the local area. Within a few blocks walking distance were several excellent restaurants all in a relatively new constructed commercial zone which was quiet, safe, and inviting. Can not recommend this location and hotel highly enough.

We arrived at the Holiday Inn Express Windsor on Halloween. The staff was dressed in costumes and preparing for a guest reception with wine and snacks. "Rowdy" the professional wrestler (AKA: Franco) provided great hospitality when not acting his costumed role LOL! We found that the staff created guest recpetions each evening we were there. Fantastic way to end a day of vineyard visits and wine tastings.

The hotel has special parking for IHG Reward members and seemd to treat us especially nice.

There is an in-door jacuzzi and sauna, as well as outdoor pool, which we unfortunately had no time to use. We had a corner suite but that only added a sitting area to an otherwise nicely sized hotel room. The bed was comfortable and not soft. There was a refrigerator and microwave and small drip coffee machine. There is an elevator, but the hotel is only three stores and the walk up was not bad.

The morning hot breakfast is above average for Holiday Inn Express and staff was very friendly and accomodating to our request. The coffee was marginal but a Peets was within walking distance in the Windsor town mall.

Also, there are a half dozen restaurant choices within walking distance. We ate at Kins (as in kin folk) the first night and Lupe's the second night. Both spots were hopping with a lively group of diners.

There is a Safeway in the same town mall as Peets and it has a good selection of local wines. My favorite was the Bear Boat Pinot Noir from northern Sonoma County. My wife liked the unoaked Kendall Jackson Avantt Chardonnay.

I would definitely come back to this hotel again.

Thank you for a wonderful anniversary weekend!

Room Tip: Get a room at the back for quiet sleep.

We stayed here recently while on wane tasting trip with friends. The hotels is clean, reasonable and friendly. Slightly better than average HIE breakfast, easy parking and walkable to the little town of Windsor - which has a few cafes and coffee places. What was fun about this hotel is they seemed to have a wine tasting by one of the area vineyards every night and also had a nice spread of cheese and fruit for all guests. If you are looking for a safe, clean entry level convenient property in wine country this is a good choice.

We stayed here for 3 nights. Hotel is very close to highway 101. We were concerned about potential noise so requested a room facing away from the highway, overlooking the pool instead. Our room was clean, quiet and the king bed comfortable. The breakfast was typical HI Express. We found the location to be excellent for exploring wine country in every direction. Restaurants in the nearby town square were handy and the food quite good. By avoiding the weekend, hotel rates here were quite reasonable. Service at the front desk was very professional, friendly and helpful.

When we arrived we were checked in by Franco -- one of the most welcoming receptions we've ever had at a motel. The room was fine..microwave and mini-fridge...bed was comfortable. The cost is outrageous for the experience....including tax and maid tip: $375 for a Saturday night in November..I understand supply and demand and you make your money when you can but I would think that at least $2 of my $300+ could have been invested in a box of genuine Kleenex instead of tissues that feel like fine sandpaper. The main reason I wouldn't stay here again: the doors lack sound-proofing...we were in a room that connects to another room (not our choice) and we could hear what was going on in their bathroom and tell you about their itinerary for the day--our neighbors weren't being inconsiderate...just going about their business and using conversational voices...the door to the hallway had the same problem...stuffing blankets under the doors didn't help. The breakfast food was fine -- really good bacon...breakfast didn't start until 7am on Sunday..don't know about the other days. Parking seemed quite secure.

Room Tip: Don't know if they exist but you could ask if there are any rooms with sound-proofing.

Thanks so much for reviewing our hotel for the TripAdvisor community! I really appreciate your candid summation, lots of food for thought! We'll definitely look into what we can do to provide additional privacy to our guests that stay in connecting rooms. Perhaps some insulation between the two doors is just the thing! As for our weekend rates, I know how that hurts. Sonoma County rental rates are certainly on the higher end of national averages for hotel rooms, apartments etc. We also have a very long season.. that has been extending every single year for the past 3 to 4 years. Next year is shaping up to be another active season with even more growth! Best advice would be to check rates before setting a date for your trip to Sonoma County. (If that's possible for you) And of course book early! As dates get closer the rates go up 95% of the time. Could mean the difference between paying a 189.00 rate or 399.00! I'd also like to add we do rate check on a daily basis to ensure our prices are intentionally set based on what the market is doing and what our competition is offering. Again thanks for taking your good time to review our hotel and for providing such delightfully objective opinions that I found to be positive and constructive!

We choose this hotel to save a little bit of money. It was just your average experience as far as the room goes. The staff was helpful with suggestions for local dining. One nice touch was the lemon water available in the hallway alcoves. Also had a nice assortment of cheese and crackers in the evening.

We were traveling without reservations due to the nature of our itinerary. The hotel is centrally located and close to food, pharmacy and groceries if you need them.

Destiny answered my questions when I called while we were driving. She did a great job checking us in and giving us directions to dinner.

The complementary breakfast was a pleasant surprise as well.
