“Perfect place for a peaceful getaway!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2013

The Windrose Romantic Cottages is an amazing place to stay! Karen and Byron were such wonderful hosts and if you needed anything they were there for you. We stayed in the Garden Suite - it was perfect. The king size bed was so comfortable. There were little extras every where you looked - even Belgian Waffle mix to make for breakfast! The claw foot bathtub was so relaxing to soak in - and there were bath salts and bath confetti to make it even better! We loved the porch to sit on and watch all the birds in the garden. It was so peaceful to listen to the water fountain and just relax. LOVED it and will be back again whenever we can come back up to the Sonoma area!

The property is very very nice. We stayed in the French Cottage. Everything you need is there. Complete. There's even a beautiful hot tub right outside of the bedroom. Very nicely appointed. If you need anything additional the managers are just a short walk away. They were very nice as well. Convenient to everything, but yet really quiet. We had an awesome time and it was very hard to leave.
We will RETURN here soon and often...

We stayed in the English Cottage. It was the perfect size for the two of us. Check-in was super easy and Karen gave us some good tips about wine tasting and a local restaurant as well. We were shown/told how to operate everything and where to find everything we might need. The cottage itself is very comfortable, spotlessly clean, and tastefully decorated. It had everything we needed including some milk, juices, cheese and fruit in the fridge and waffle mix as well - all delicious!

We stayed two nights and decided to grill steaks on the second night. We were able to have a really nice dinner. Plates, cutlery, pots, pans and (most importantly) wine glasses are all stocked in the cupboards. The kitchen sink even had filtered water! The bathroom is a bit tiny, but big enough. Plenty of towels and replacements for everything in case we ran out. We didn't need to ask for anything - every possible need has been anticipated.

The only thing I'd suggest adding is a make-up/shaving mirror. My husband had to keep turning around to see the mirror as he shaved - it's a really tiny inconvenience that absolutely did not take away from our ability to enjoy the cottage.

The location seems really rural, but it's close to Highway 101 and the town of Windsor is about 5 minutes away. So it feels like you're "away from it all" without actually being away from it all. There are lots of wineries nearby, some charge for tastings and the price varies, I suggest calling ahead. Karen provides a picnic basket to carry your picnic items, we didn't use this, but it's available if you want it. There are geese on the lot next door - lots of geese - that are very vocal at different times of the day. It didn't bother me, but my husband's sleep was a bit disturbed.

Overall our two days at Windrose Cottages were great. I'd recommend this getaway for couples especially. It was quiet, relaxing, clean, comfortable and convenient. We had the place to ourselves and loved every minute.

Room Tip: The English cottage was perfect for the two of us. Big enough to move around, a couch to sit on (in...

The Windrose Romantic Cottages are just that...romantic! We stayed in the Italian Country Cottage which has its own Hot Tub outside, and soaking claw foot tub inside. Awesome! The location is great, just 5 minutes from the freeway, but totally quiet and serene. There are geese, ducks, and emus to greet you (behind a fence of course!) that are not even part of the property but help create the perfect atmosphere. The prices are very reasonable and it is only a few minutes from Russian River Wineries. The owners, Karen and Byron, are very nice. It was a peaceful respite from our crazy lives, if only for a couple of days. We would definitely stay here again!

My husband and I have stayed in the wine country probably a dozen times by now and were looking for something a little different this time when he came across the Windrose Romantic Cottages online. The price was certainly right and we had a great experience. We love Healdsburg, but unless you can get a deal the room rates can be pricey for what you get. Windsor is a great starting point for wine tasting as it is close to both Healdsburg and the Russian River Valley. We stayed in the Italian cottage and were very pleased. We LOVE HOT TUBS and the one for this cottage was one of the best we've ever been in! The cottage itself was huge with a large shower, separate sink and toilet, claw foot tub, king size bed, kitchen and sitting area. Everything was nicely decorated and the wifi worked great. We were a little concerned about the rules and regulations we heard about before coming but everything worked out fine. It's worth knowing in advance that the arrangement is more like a short term vacation rental rather than a Bed and Breakfast. The kitchen is fully stocked with fruit, cereal, a waffle maker and supplies, etc. but you still have to make breakfast and clean up after yourself or face a $25 charge. Same for housekeeping - there is none. And while we were the only ones there during our stay, I don't believe there is much of an opportunity to mingle with other guests, but rather the emphasis is on privacy and seclusion. We found it to be a really nice alternative to a traditional hotel or B&B in Sonoma and location can't be beat.

My husband and I stayed in the Garden Cottage the weekend of July 27th & 28th and couldn't have been more pleased with our choice. The property is in a quiet country location, but very close to town. It is beautiful and peaceful, surrounded by a large pasture full of cattle, emus, ducks and geese. The cottage itself was a delight. Very comfortable king size bed, large claw-foot soaking tub, plus large shower, mini-kitchenette (just perfect for our needs) with various continental breakfast items included, fruit and cheese plate on arrival, coffee, juice, milk and fruit.
Our cottage faced the rear of the property and felt very private. It was so quiet at night which made for an excellent nights sleep. The cottage had a lovely front porch with chairs and a table, where we had a dinner picnic and bottle of wine one warm evening. It was so quiet and peaceful and it seemed like there was no one else around. Just lovely. The owners, Byron and Karen are very nice and wonderful hosts. They were helpful but never intrusive. We rarely saw them, but when needed they were right there. They provided great suggestions for dinners and also for a wonderful grocery in nearby Healdsburg. There is also a binder in the room full of things to do in the area which was very useful.
Staying in the cottage felt almost like being in a private house which was just perfect for us. Privacy, comfort and quiet. And the price was actually less than some of the larger chain hotels in town. Just loved it. We have already booked again for next year!

Nice property close to Santa Rosa airport (great air museum) and not to far from Windsor, CA. Your hosts Byron and Karen are two of the nicest people and great hosts. We stayed in the French Cottage-they also have English, Italian and Tankhouse. I wish I owned the cottage and could move it to the coast, nice retirement home. They provide the ingredients for waffles and they were great. We went to Savemart in Healdsburg and picked up some other supplies-bacon, fruit, etc. , a nice little keg of Heineken and it was perfect. Room were just right for two people-they had cable, wi-fi, cd player, dvd player, books, games (Yahtzee!). We had Emu's, Canadian Geese and Big Brahma Bulls next door, they were neat to watch. Bed is queen size but very comfortable. Kitchen had all necessary utensils. They ask that you keep it clean before you leave, which presented no problem. Close to many wineries and attractions. We went to listen to Zydeco music in Healdsburg, Black Rock Casino in Alexander Valley. Heck we even drove to the coast to Jenner where it was nice and cool. Windsor is a quaint little town with a village green and the greatest candy store-Powell's, only place to find peanut butter bars. Things closed early keep that in mind. Toured Korbel California Champagne Cellars which was very nice. The property had nice place to park right in front of our cottage and a great hot tub just like at home. Only complaint was we could not stay longer. Price was very nice compared to hotels in area and ammendities you receive. Regarding the review about no guest visitors, there are always these type of people who are going to complain now matter what-just disregard their opinions and listen to the majority.

Room Tip: Try different cottages.
