My partner and I, after a great day of biking on Frying Pan Road in Basalt, decided to try the Seafood Shack for dinner, rather than one of the established restaurants in town. The Shack sits in the center of town, just steps from a liquor store, where we bought beer to go along with our meal of jumbo shrimp, crab cake, a boiled Maine Lobster, and a lobster roll. There are picnic tables and chairs set up right next to the Shack, and an informal, festive atmosphere among all those either eating there, or ordering their food to go. I went up to the counter and placed my order, paid for it, then waited for about ten minutes for everything to be cooked to order - just enough time to go to the liquor store. When everything was ready, my name was called, and I went back to the counter to pick up my order, simply served on paper plates, with a plastic spoon, and napkins. The boiled one and one half pound lobster we enjoyed had just come out of the pot it was cooked in, and was absolutely fresh and delicious, if a bit messy to eat. Same with the fresh lobster roll - just chilled pieces of lobster, celery, and a bit of mayo - nothing more! The shrimp were also a standout - they were pan fried with no breading, just a bit of oil and salt - superb! This is a fun place to go and relax outdoors, enjoy the setting sun in lovely downtown Basalt, and eat some great seafood as well! Our cost, not including the beer we bought separately, was about $40 per person.
