Recently traveled to Boulder, first time for me, for a wedding. Wedding was based out of the Hotel Boulderado. Drive from Denver was not too bad, considering all the construction going on with the non-toll roads connecting Denver Airport to Boulder area.
Arrived in Boulder, with no problems with finding the hotel. Boulder is a very nice town with a lot of outdoor activities and the Hotel Boulderado is in the center of the Downtown Area and adjacent to the Pearl Street Mall.
Valet staff was very friendly, explaining the $10 overnite valet fee, with in and out privileges. Opening the door in to the hotel was pretty amazing with the colorful glass ceiling and the carved wooden stairs. Check in was easy. There are two parts to the hotel--older, original rooms and the adjacent new side of the hotel. We stayed in room 452, which was very large with room for a love seat, small sofa, chest of drawers, desk and king size bed. Was very quiet, but faces East, so make sure your curtains are closed tight on sunny days!
While furniture looked antique in keeping with the theme, room had all modern conveniences--flat screen TV, lots of plugs for electronic devices, good plumbing and lots of closet space. Temperature control for the room worked well, considering that while we were there we encountered cold thunderstorm and 90 degree blazing sunny weather within a 36 hour period.
Staff was very friendly. Waited for friend in adjacent bar, ordered ice tea, friend did not showup, they did not charge me for ice tea! Used bell captain services on the day of check out to get clothes for wedding atleast twice, no complaints and did not want a tip till we picked up our luggage at end of the day. Valet was very helpful retrieving items from car and offering helpful suggestions for things to see in Boulder.
Possible negatives, if you don't like to walk up stairs, you will need to use the manual and original elevator to go upstairs. Have to wait for the elevator man to take you up and down, which can be inconvenient if you are in a hurry. The new extension requires that you get to second floor of old hotel to cross skyway to new hotel and take another elevator up to the fourth floor.
Wedding went off without a hitch and had a really good time exploring the Pearl Street Mall area. Did not eat in the hotel, reception was in an adjacent art gallery across the street. This place has atleast a couple of weddings on weekend days during the summer.
I would recommend this place for a weekend splurge, the location and staff plus the ambience make this a place worth coming back to.
