“Don't do anything in your room you don't want your neighbor to hear”
Reviewed 10 March 2012

The hotel was perfectly fine for my purposes ... was there on a ski trip, there is a Breckenridge Ski Rental store in the hotel from which i got my ski gear, and the hotel is just across the road from the Quicksilver lift at the base of Peak 9 and about a five minute walk from one of the other big ski lifts (the name of which i forget).

I stayed in a very weirdly shaped room in the wing of the hotel which is about a 5 minute walk from the lobby to even get to the elevator (I think the hotel might have originally been two separate buildings that have now been connected). The elevator in my wing of the hotel were very very SLOW .... and I should say there is only one elevator, such that in peak times in the morning you could be waiting 5 or more minutes for the elevator to arrive. Big thing, however, was the noise ... you could hear a lot of what went on in rooms next to you, and whenever my neighbors closed their door, my entire room shook with the noise of the door closing on its own weight (i.e. they weren't slamming the door, the just let it close by itself). Also seem to be understaffed in the restaurant, though the staff do seem to try their best, but simply because of the number of guests, they can get overwhelmed and forget things at times. I also got charged for parking when i didn't have a car with me, but that was an easy fix on checkout.

Warm cookies made everything a little better. The room was spacious and had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable, but the shower drain did not work well and left standing water after. The elevator was broken, and though I don't mind the exercise it did become an inconvenience to schlep up and down 6 flights of stairs so often. The pools and hot tubs were a treat, though I would have preferred if the water in the hot tubs appeared cleaner. The fitness center has everything necessary for a complete workout (freeweights, cardio machines, cable machines, bench, swiss balls, sauna). Parking was very confusing when we first arrived as the entrances to the garages are not clearly marked. We also had issues with our key cards not working to access the garage. The guest room walls did not muffle noise well at all, we could hear everything going on in the hallways and adjacent rooms, as well as phones ringing and even noise from outside.

Parking is an extra $20 a day. No complimentary breakfast (I suggest going to Daylight Donuts for an ultra-affordable and satisfying first meal).

Having stayed in the "Great Divide" in our first year in Breckenridge 6 years ago, we were looking forward to our return to the newly named DoubleTree. We hired a car from Denver and headed west on i70 to arrive in Breckenridge at 9pm. The first encounter with the staff there was very positive. Before I had stepped out of the car, a staff member welcomed me and guided me to the reception for check-in.

Check-in was very quick and we were in our room in 10 minutes. The room was enormous with 2 large double beds and a pull-out sofa including coffee table, writing desk and dining table. The room also had a nice-sized flat screen tv. Our room was a mountain-facing room and the view didn't let us down. The bathroom was a bit pokey but it was clean and tidy and so it was not really any cause for concern.

Overall this was a great stay and the hotel provided us with everything we needed and expected. They supplied a free shuttle to town if you didn't fancy the 10 minute walk although we tended to take the opportunity to walk off our dinner so rarely used it.

The only real negatives are that there was a $20 per day parking charge and there wasn't enough milk to make more than 1 cup of tea/coffee per day per person.

All-in-all, a great stay for a good price in a great location. Closer places to town may suit the younger party animals among you but for a hotel that is ‘virtually’ on the slopes and easily walking distance to Main Street, this has to be a contender for your next stay in Breckenridge.

Room Tip: Room 771 is close to the lift and has a great mountain view (although has a small bathroom).

A bit pricey for what you get but then everything in Breckenridge is pricey. Room was a little dated and there were a couple of hairs on the sheets, although I think the sheets were fresh. Hallway smelled a little funky. We were on the 8th floor and had to take two sets of elevators or stairs at opposite ends of the building every time we wanted to come or go, which got to be a pain. But location was good and we found the staff to be very helpful with a great attitude. A toss up if we'd stay here again.

The good: staff extremely helpful and nice, snowboard/ski rentals in the hotel (and can reserve on-line), walking distance to ski lifts, good food, quiet room, small refrigerator in room, good water pressure in shower, ability to print boarding passes and workout room with free weights and cardio equipment (but only one weight machine).

The not so good: forever wait for the elevator (ask for a low floor and take the stairs), our room needed work (draperies hanging off rail, vent cover falling off and table lamp was making hissing sounds), amenities for two when we were three (call to front desk didn't help, finding housekeeping personnel worked), internet access is unbelievably slow (in-room wireless and on their computers in the Business Center), very limited options in their convenience store (Beaver Run Resort next door has a good convenience store and take out options), and no self-service laundry (good ones next door at the Beaver Run Resort).

Room Tip: Choose a room on a lower floor so you can use the stairs (avoid long wait for elevators).

We stayed here over President's day for 2 nights. After some of the mixed reviews I was nervous but was looking for a place were we could take our dog. Since so many hotels won't even let you leave them in your room (like what am I suppose to do with a dog when I want to go out to eat) this place worked for us. We were able to check in a hour early and was on the 6th floor. We had a double queen and must have got one of their renovated rooms because it was great. Beautiful bed linens, nice furniture, very clean and modern bathroom and had a fridge and coffee maker. The room was huge. Had a nice dog area one flight down from our room for walking the dog. Some people complained about the food but we ordered room service both mornings and thought the food was great. We spent a couple of hours at the bar and the bartender was very nice. We were not there to ski but I did hear some skiers that were staying above the 6th floor complain about the transfer of elevators and the long walk once they got into the hotel. The parking garages are nice but if you take your car out at night you may not find a spot when you get back in. I agree that some of the design is bad on this hotel but it seemed very clean and friendly to me. The fact that we can take our dog makes this place a winner with me.

Room Tip: Stay on floor 6 and below if transferring elevators is a problem and if your skiing I think it would...

I am in the hospitality business, and I was shocked how bad this hotel was designed. You have to walk a mile to reach the elevators and if you are staying above the sixth floor you have to walk three mile and take two elevator, after a day of skiing is the last thing you want to do. I have to say the have a wonderful staff though, but stay somewhere else and save yourself the agrevation, unless the rate is $39 per night, they shouldnt charge more than that
