Water House on Main Street
Reviewed 8 February 2014

Many of the condos we have stayed in at Breck are somewhat dated and dumpy but not Water House. This condo has it all--great location, spacious room, well equipped, great amenities. From this location we could easily walk to all the shops and restaurants on Main, it was a bit of a hike to the Quicksilver lift but doable. Right outside the main entrance to the complex there is a Free Ride bus stop that takes you nearly anywhere you want to go in Breckenridge. There is also a free private shuttle that we took instead. You go to the front desk and they call the shuttle, which almost always gets there within 10 minutes, and you get a private ride to lifts, City market or wherever. When you want to come back, you just call them and tell them your location, and you have a private ride back. Sweet. The entire Main Street complex has several individual buildings, not connected, so you have to use your room key to get inside from the main lobby. At first I thought this would be inconvenient and was confusing, but once you get the lay of the land and don't get lost, it seems to keep the rooms very private and quiet because you don't have people clomping down the halls unless they have rooms on that floor. The rooms are large and everything in them is new and good quality, plenty of cooking utensils and dishes and glasses for everyone. The rooms have flat screen TV's, Dish TV and DVD players. So nice not to have to choose from just 10 or so channels on basic cable, like they have at many condos. The beds were a bit soft with pillow top mattresses, but we slept well on them and had no back pain (at least none associated with the mattress) so I guess they were ok. Our room had a nice view of the complex, which looks like a little mountain village, and of the ski run around the Quicksilver lift with the mountain beyond it. Another nice amenity is free DVD rental box located near the check in desk in the lobby. It has a fairly good choice of DVD's, new ones as well as oldies, and it's free as long as you return the DVD. There is a nice looking fitness room, as well as hot tub, we didn't use either one but it looked good and we might have used it if the weather was too bad for skiing. Another nice amenity was that they have a Christy ski rental place right on the property, downstairs from the lobby. Prices were maybe a bit high but it sure was convenient. Right next to Christy's was the ski valet. They store your skis for you, after you ski each day they use driers to dry and warm your boots, then when you go to retrieve them the next day your boots are warm and dry, and they put your skis and poles outside so you can take off. This was a nice touch for people like us who are getting old and lazy. I wouldn't have paid extra for it, but it sure was nice to have. Overall, this place is certainly not cheap but it cost less than I would have expected for this kind of quality and convenience. We would definitely stay there again and probably will.

Stayed here for 6 nights in a 2 bed condo. The condo's are well appointed and finished to a very good 4 star standard. The kitchens are well equipped with every utensil required for any kind of meal you wish to prepare. I liked the fact that they supplied detergent, dishwasher powder and salt/pepper/coffee etc. The rooms are very spacious although the second bedroom is a little tight its still more than ample.

The bathrooms are clean with plenty of towels provided. Free internet worked well and good choice of TV channels plus a DVD library.

Location wise its a great compromise between being close the lifts and being able to walk everywhere in town. Its a bit of walk in the morning with the skis but not a big deal. The hotel provides a shuttle service anywhere in town which was very efficient.

House keeping was good, the only points to pick on is I noticed they weren't sweeping/vacuuming the floors very thoroughly (often crumbs from breakfast still around) and there was no card to indicate that you would like the bed sheets changed.

The only major negative was the heat level in the second bedroom was stifling and we had to trouble to control it often having to open the window in the night to control the temperature.

All the staff at the hotel were excellent and very friendly. Would definitely return

This was a nice place. We had a two bedroom, and we could walk everywhere in town. The beds were comfortable, and the creek outside was very nice. Staying in town is definitely worth it.

The only con was, they offer everyone a $75 rate for a third night stay when you get there. We wanted to do this, but they told us that it was unavailable to us, since someone else was coming into our unit. That was disappointing.

We stayed in unit 5304 and loved it. It's very spacious, everything is new and high-end, beautifully decorated and furnished, and very clean. The kitchen is huge for a condo. The property is at the far end of the busy part of Breck -- great for avoiding noise but still close enough to be well located for walking to everything the town has to offer. The small balcony is kind of overlooking another condo complex but still has a beautiful mountain view. The unit was exactly as described, no surprises -- even nicer than pictures. We could not believe the great condo prices in Breck in the summer . . . the value of this condo in July was exceptional. The gentleman who checked us in and out was also super friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Loved the vaulted ceiling in this unit -- not something all units have.

We spent two nights in a two bedroom unit in Water House. This property is managed by Resort Quest and they've done an excellent job keeping up the condos and the property. These are very clean, modern, tastefully decorated condos. The kitchen was fully stocked for cooking. The local grocery and a liquor store is about three blocks away (watch out, the prices are super-high!). The property also has room service so you can skip cooking altogether. The views of the mountains from the balcony are spectacular. The property also has a small lake with paddle board rentals. Water House sits at the end of Main Street across from the Breckenridge Brewery. It is only a short walk (5 or 6 blocks) to the center of town and the various activities. There are many restaurants, shops and bars just a short walk from the condo. The property also operates a free shuttle. Overall, we could not have asked for more. We were also pleased at the level of soundproofing -- no noise from surrounding units even though we could see that some were occupied.

Room Tip: Select an end unit on the west side -- you get extra balcony space with great views!

We stayed in condo number 5205 and it was beyond perfect. My daughter had her 6 month old baby with her and she stayed in the roomy second bedroom. The MB is very generously sized with balcony . The best part ...the two bedrooms are far enough apart that we never heard the baby cry.
The kitchen is well equipped and it made our stay the best ever.

We stayed in 5111 and were very pleased with the accommodation which was on the ground floor (it features in some of the Resort Quest images).

The furnishings were high spec, comfortable and useable. The master bedroom was spacious, had an extremely comfortable king bed & a lovely bathroom. Each bedroom was equipped with a humidifier. I would agree with a previous comment that the second bedroom was a bit cramped with 2 twin beds pushed next to each other, but our kids seemed quite happy (maybe it was the distraction of the plasma TV & DVD machine!)

The kitchen was well stocked for cooking and had every implement that we required.

There was a washer and dryer in the unit and there was even laundry detergent and a laundry basket provided.

Free WIFI, DVD player and flatscreen TV's in both bedrooms and the living room. Great loan DVD service (free one DVD per 24 hour slot).

The heated pool and hot tubs were great, and it was good to have bathrobes provided for the short walk from the condo.

It is a c 100m walk to the lift. En route you store / pick up your skis at the "grand storage" under main street station - they were very organised & helpful, although it's still a bit of a trek to the lift. We booked rentals through our holiday company, but numerous companies offer rental packages & deals, so be sure to do your research.

The condo was not inexpensive, but was fair value, considering the quality, cleanliness and all the extras. We would most definitely consider returning.

The staff were very helpful and the ski valet area where you could store your ski stuff was very handy. The free shuttle bus to take you back and forth to restaurants was also a bonus, especially on the very cold snowy nights.

Ski school: Our kids had 3 days in ski school (we booked ultimate 4 package) and I had 1 day in the adult group lessons. In all sessions, the staff were first class, and we all gained hugely from the lessons. My only 2 complaints would be (i) it's more expensive than equivalent in France (although the staff were brilliant!) (ii) you couldn't guarantee the same teacher from one day to the next

Recommended eateries are: the Coffee Depot next door to accommodation for breakfasts, Blue Moose for cooked breakfast, Bubba Gumps for the shrimp, Blue River Bistro for a more up market dinner, Erics for the pizzas, Taddeo's for great pasta & fresh food, the Brewery for a fun / local experience and most definitely the Quandry closest to the condo, for their Happy Hour and great staff.

Recommended activities: Take in the local mining town - Main Street has lots of lovely shops, bars & eateries. Also ice skating (all year round in-door skating only 2 blocks away).

Summary: A costly holiday (especially as were travelling from the UK), BUT BRILLIANT!
