“acceptable but nothing fancy”
Reviewed 8 February 2012

We booked this through RCI. Having been to breckenridge previously, we knew what to expect...but the price was right and we go to Breck for the skiing and don't spend much time in the room so it was fine. We had the 2 BR with loft. There were on ly 3 of us but it could have easily slept 6 comfortably.

On the plus side...close to town, on the shuttle route, full kitchen (although we had to get missing utensils from management), roomy, clean, comfy beds, nice towels, after hours check in is easy.

The cons:Parking is outside, (once we get to Breck, we park our car and use the shuttle to get around), the building is a bit dated, decor is not upscale, management is down the block, can be a bit noisy in the hallway, no common areas. No elevator so if you can't do stairs, look elsewhere...jacuzzi was downstairs in a basement like area that has been converted to a jacuzzi/tv area...i prefer the hot tub to be outside.

This is a condo not a resort, so there are no real "resort amenities" however Breckenridge the mountain and the town more than make up for this lack. Downtown is less than 5 minutes walking (slowly, in the snow), and the ski hill is easily accesible by walking 10-15 mins or shuttle. So, you are paying for the location more than anything. All in all, it was a perfectly fine value for the exchange fee we paid.

There is a small grocery a block away or city market (for a better selection) is at the other end of town --maybe 2 miles--be sure to ask for the city market frequent shopper card to get discounts.

Room Tip: the 2 BR/2 BA with the loft was spacious a comfy

Dirty, outdated, inadequate parking and terrible management service. Also, when the parking lot fills up, you are forced to park in the street resulting in a ticket. Feels like staying in the slum lords.

We own a 2 bedroom unit in week 02 & 03 at Alpenrose. We have been there over a dozen times and have seen gradual improvement to the building and units over the years. The location is very close to “Main St.” and is in easy walking distance to all amenities in Breckenridge. A bus stop with service to all of Summit County is only 50 feet from the front doors of the building. Breckenridge Ski area is a short 7 minute ride on the bus. It is great not to worry about the cost and hassle of parking. We often come back to the condo for lunch it is so close.
Although not modern, the units have all the essentials for an enjoyable weeks stay. Do not expect a “Gold Crown” level condo here. They are very reasonably priced and are quite adequate for the stay. After all do you want to ski & be outdoors, or have a full service resort? The choice is yours and Alpenrose is a nice place to stay for a good price in one of the best ski towns in America.

We booked a week at Alpenrose through an RCI condo exchange. My boyfriend and I are not too picky when exchanging weeks through RCI because it's much cheaper than booking a hotel or condo on our own. Most of RCI's resorts have the totally 80's look, but we really don't care as long as a few things are up to par: the bed, the shower, and the kitchen. Since we spend all day on the ski hill, these three things are the most important. Alpenrose failed on all of them.

The condos are in a great location near many restaurants and the main street shops. There is also a free bus stop right outside. We didn't drive our car much at all. The condos had better furniture and carpet than most RCI units. There were two large televisions, a VCR, and a DVD player. There was also plenty of dresser and closet space. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end.

The bed was a cushy, pillow-top that was one of the best we've had at RCI units. The problem was that old, non-pillow top sheets were being used. They were too small and kept slipping off the corners.

The kitchen had a new fridge and microwave, but the stove had burners that wobbled constantly. This made it hard to cook anything in a sautee pan. The kitchen was not well-stocked with basic cooking supplies, like tongs. There were sufficient supplies to make breakfast or a pasta dinner, but it lacked many supplies we normally use. We ended up being so annoyed with the kitchen that we ate out most of the time. This added a huge, unforeseen expense to our trip.

The worst part of the condo was the "water-saver" shower head. It did not even look like a shower head, it looked like the end of a pipe. It disseminated water at a force no greater than a violent spit. As someone with longer hair, it took me twice the time to wash and condition my hair. And, the showers just were not pleasant. After a long day of snowboarding, nothing feels better than a hot, powerful shower. We called the front desk and they told us that all Alpenrose condos have these to save water. They said a maintenance person would check the water pressure, but that they get tons of complaints so it was probably just the shower head. Three days later, the maintenance person showed up. He was friendly and said that the water saver shower-heads were "trash" but it was clear there was nothing he could do. The irony is that the condos are not environmentally friendly in any other way. There are no energy-saving light bulbs or other structural add-ons to help the environment. It just doesn't make sense that they have these shower heads.

A few other issues. Our toilette only flushed 75% of the time. The other times my boyfriend had to lift up the tank and reset something so it would refill. Also, If it snows more than 3 inches before 9 am (which happens a lot in the winter) guests are required to move their cars indefinitely so the lot can be plowed. This is a huge inconvenience for people trying to get out on the slopes. There was also a ridiculous request in the information packet that we strip all beds and pile linens in a pile before checking out. Yeah right.

We will never stay here again, even on a condo exchange. There were some nice features, like the TV and bed, but they were utterly ruined by everything else.

We exchanged our Florida gold crown RCI for a week here to ski. From the outside it looked like it would be ok. We entered our condo building from the outside through a door, nearly falling off the hinges, into a DARK and very narrow hallway with plywood doors on either side that entered the "condo units." the galley kitchen was not only small, but also not clean. The living room was also very small and dark, with a dirty carpet. Other than the location that offered a shuttle to the ski hill at the corner, and being within walking distance to downtown, it was in no way pleasant. We immediately went to the registration desk and said we were not pleased with the accommodations and asked for a different room. They said there was one available for $200/night additional fee. We decided to stick it out for the couple days with our kids who met us to ski, and then left early. Not a pleasant experience.
