Wondering if we were just unlucky on our last visit....our experience was very disappointing.
Soup starter was nice but there was no crusty bread or roll with it - when we asked for some they brought a hot roll - lovely - if you don't mind paying £1.25 for it on top of the price of the soup!
We asked if they had steak as there was none offered on the menu - after checking with the kitchen we were told that there was - although no mention was made as to the price. Steak was good but not exceptional but only came with a few lettuce leaves and some chips, When ordering we asked what came with the Steak and were told chips and peas. They asked if we wanted mushrooms - we both did but when the bill came - they had charged £17.95 for the steak, and £1.50 for the mushrooms but had also charged £1.50 for the peas which we were told came with the steak! Have been here a couple of times before and have been happy with our food on those visits - not this time though - got the distinct feeling that they were charging extra for anything that they could...

Having been for a walk around Avebury, we drove the short distance to this country pub. A very warm welcome as we entered and a mouth-watering list of specials on the blackboard. We tried the Game Pie (pheasant, partridge and pigeon) and the Chicken, ham and leek pie. Both were excellent and full of tender meat. We shared the scrummy homemade bread and butter pudding. All the staff were very friendly and efficient. With a good selection of Wadworth ales on tap, this is exactly what a country pub should be. I look forward to returning.

The roaring log fire and warmth of welcome from the owners make this a very special place serving excellent beer, wines and lovely homemade pub grub - a perfect place to meet, relax and have fun.
They’ve taken the ordinariness out of pub grub and injected life into the traditional specials board where clearly the chef has cleverly and carefully choreographed these dishes to awaken all senses.
It looked lovely, smelt superb and tasted tantalizing.
The partridge starter was stunning and left you in eager anticipation of what was to follow. For me a beautifully presented beetroot mash, rainbow coloured array of perfectly cooked delicate roasted vegetables all drawn together with the finest venison sausages. My partner’s meal was an equally outstanding pie with a velvet sauce, the tastiest tender lamb and again exquisitely pretty vegetables. Our mains proudly led the gastronomic journey. This is very impressive food.
On top of the delight of the food this pub has the most spectacular uninterrupted views over the downs

Had Sunday lunch recently and was impressed by the variety of food on offer and the quality. On talking to the landlord discovered a lot of the produce was not only local but he actually helped in the preparation and had a say in the ingredients as well which made the whole experience even more special. The pub is very pleasantly situated with a nice conservatory and we were made very welcome.

We have eaten several times at this lovely pub and restaurant. The Landlord and his team are very welcoming and always a sense of humour prevails. The food is excellent with vegetarian options and with a varied A La Carte menu served in pleasant and congenial surroundings.
