Read the great reviews and went for lunch and unfortunately very underwhelmed with the food. We ordered a ham and cheese plough mans which came without cheese and bacon Brie and tomato panini which came without tomato!

“Mid week lunch.”
Reviewed 10 July 2014

Visited here a few times and really like the place. The food certainly has a home feel about it and the menu quite varied. It is a good proper pub in a nice setting. The food can sometimes take sometime to appear, I think it worth the wait, beer is well presented and there is a good atmosphere.

“Local gem”
Reviewed 3 July 2014 via mobile

The first thing that you notice is the location of this local pub, placed on the edge of Sarrat village opposite a quaint old church, overlooking the Chess Valley. The setting could not be nicer. The welcome was friendly and extremely helpful. The food all beautifully home cooked pub fare, the selection is a bit limited, however wholesome and well presented. This is a place I will definitely be visiting again.

“Appalling”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

We booked a table Saturday evening 14 June. As we sat down we saw lamb on the specials board which a few of us wanted. The waitress came over and said that the pate and the whitebait starters were off and that they had been so busy that they hadn't cooked the lamb. Four of us opted for the gravlax. Tiny potion with supermarket sliced bread, no butter and the sauce was just French dressing.. We had to remind them to bring the wine list - apologies they'd forgot. Four of us ordered steak. The manager came up and said they only had three left. I ordered something else but complained about all this. They eventually said that one of their regulars would swap with. E and they wouldn't charge me for this steak. This was good because my steak was obviously a lump at the end and didn't look like the other three. They were all extremely tough. They said the reason for all this was because they had a very busy lunch grade but surely a country pub should expect this on a sunny summer Saturday

“The Cock Inn, Sarratt”
Reviewed 5 June 2014

Arrived around 1 pm - not particularly busy. Waited at bar for service - eventually someone, manager?? apologised thought we were already being looked after. Confusion then reigned clearly by us not knowing format for outside seating and ordering - obviously we were outsiders!! What table were we on? 'don't know as havn't gone outside yet!' Eventually placed order for soup and 2 sandwiches, pint, cordial and wine for friend. We complain of lipstick on wine glass -- manager mumbles 'sorry' and unbelieveably TRANSFERS THE WINE INTO CLEAN GLASS!!!!! You could not make it up! Food eventually arrived at wrong table finally being delivered to us. Quality and presentation zero. Soup stone cold, returned for re-heating, - bread? hardly buttered but ham totally smothered in mustard, coronation chicken covered in very suspicious sauce? - ALL FOR 43.00!!! Tired now of complaining - suggest complete change of staff - from the top down and have serious words with the Chef? Never again. Shame really as it's an attractive pub but clearly run by totally amateur staff.
