We just returned from one night at Avalanche Ranch and the kids are already planning our return. The cabins are rustic and comfortable and the staff is helpful, kind, and competent. We particularly enjoyed the wood burning stove in cabin #5 and our two boys (7 and 9) were so happy reading and playing in the cozy loft. They also very much appreciated the delicious home baked cookies and dog biscuits that were in our cabin on arrival (yes, this is a pet friendly place and our dog loved it as much as we did). The hot springs were beautiful, warm, and peaceful. Stargazing together through the rising steam was definitely the highlight of our trip.
Avalanche Ranch is a perfect spot for a couple, family, or group of friends - anyone who wants to unplug, unwind, and enjoy the company of loved ones in a breathtaking setting. I recommend thinking carefully through footwear and clothing choices for the post-soak stroll back to your cabin.

Spent a winter weekend here with a group of friends and loved it! The accommodations are semi-rustic, but the attention to detail is what makes av ranch so perfect. The beds are incredibly comfortable, the springs lovely, and there's even a sweet selection of organic teas in the kitchen. They have a blissful snowshoe (hiking) trail and gorgeous mountain views. This is a very special place run by very wonderful people!

We had 4 people in cabin #8 and had other family members in cabins 5, 6 & 7. We were very comfortable with a Queen bed, double in the loft and a futon. The cabins are decorated in typical cabin decor and the bathtub/shower was a bear claw tub. We loved the hot springs and our kids played a lot of ping-pong with their cousins. The ice rink was not firmly solid because it was above 32 degrees, but we tried anyway. There are not a lot of skates so if you have your own, you should bring them. We had a great weekend with the perfect mix of relaxing and adventure.

We snowshoed on top of McClure Pass as recommended by the staff which was a highlight. The views are amazing.

Avalanche Ranch has a series of detached cabins, self catering, about 10 miles out of Carbondale, CO. It is nestled into the hillside leaving the cabins with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. They have recently added hot spring bathing pools which are excellent! There is a cool-ish pool complete with waterfall, a warmer pool, and a hot pool for soaking. All of them were warm enough to enjoy during the freezing temperatures. They are gorgeous and very enjoyable all the way around. I had stayed at Avalanche Ranch for a couple of nights in 2005 before the hot springs and enjoyed it then, the soaking pools just make it that much better!

There are several types of cabins and all of them are cozy and rustic. We rented 3 of the cabins for a special event. We liked the layout of our cabin with a loft up high and a bed and futon below and a private bedroom. The kitchen included everything except the food. The lodge is a great place for the kids (and adults) to hang out and the hot spring pools are very soothing, and romantic. There's also a delightful gift shop on the property. The owners of this establishment are long-time local residents. You are treated with the wonderful hospitality that is so characteristic of this western area. This is a beautiful valley on the Crystal River and not to be missed for a scenic drive through the Elk Mountains of Colorado. You'll want to stay for more than 1 night!
