“After wedding retreat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2014

Had our first (of 2) wedding on Sat, then went to Central City/Blackhawk for a couple of days with relatives. Good value at Reserve, casino smaller but good. Rooms are clean as is hotel area. Bathrooms are a bit small, but very workable. Will continue to stay here in the future. Only had 1 breakfast here, OK. In general, I think the casino's in Central City are looser than BH, but they are nicer (and hotels more expensive).

Making reservations was a nightmare, every time the phone was answered it sounded like I woke the same girl up. Hotel was in good shape and the room had a looked of recent improvements - minus the paint scrapped off walls and lint all over the carpet, bed was horribly soft. The staff was very friendly remembering conversations from the previous day and saying hi. Like most casinos getting a drink is a challenge, a big one. I found that I got a beer an hour - in the realm of responsibility that is ok for most people but I'm 6'4" and work in a brewery; I'm not trying to get drunk but I shouldn't have to chase down a drink. We had dinner elsewhere - companions really wanted crab. But did have breakfast there which was ok but expensive. No one was eating breakfast so the items sat a long time and where very limited. We have no idea there was an option to build your own omelet until we had finished. On the weekends, they apparently raise the minimums so we ended up going across the street that night to gamble - even less beer there.
Overall it was a nice place to stay, the room was a little pricey considering your theoretically there to gamble - Nothing else in town. Staying in Central City you might think its easier to gamble - lower mins - but it was just the same, would have had more options in Blackhawk for the same amount. BYOB thought.

Room was nice and quiet at end of hallway. Not my top choice, but for a comped room I will not complain. Staff is nice and casino is fair. Machines pay out ok, but not too fond of the slot/video poker machines.

Hotel room was wonderful. Not only is the bed comfortable but with the perfect pillows and bedding to match which you normally do get in hotels. Casino was disappointing. Many machines have been removed... Can't stay to long. Get's old quick.

This is our second stay and we enjoyed coming back. However, I had to check in with a debit card as I was awaiting my new credit card to come in the mail. I wasn't told until checkout that my debit card would be temporarily charged $30 over the amount.

Hotel room was very nice. Not impressed with the java room restaurant. Staff lacked training and knowledge of the property. Got a lot of "ums" from staff! When we asked the hotel staff how to redeem our free pizza coupon she told us to take it to the java room and then they sent us to the cage and then back to the java room. Overall there was a lack of friendliness from staff compared to other casinos.
