Okay place if you're a gambler. We were passing through on a vacation, and wanted to stay in this historic and scenic old city. We chose this casino as our motel.

Not good.

The service runs from indiffernt to mildly rude. The room was okay, but the price made it a bad value. They charge for all outgoing 'phone calls (fifty cents each), and they have no internet access other than dialup (28K, deal with it!), at fifty cents a whack. No continental breakfast. You want decaf coffee for your coffeemaker? Go downstairs to the front desk and beg for it.

You have to run the gauntlet through a smoky casino to get from your car to your room.

If you're bad at math and like to gamble, and you don't live close to the nicer Nevada casinos, this might be the place for you.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at Fortune Valley Hotel for 2 nights in September, 2005. The first night (Wednesday) we got the "Gambler's Special" (which included a $10 cash certificate) at about $70. Thursday night our room cost about $72 with a 10% AAA discount. Friday night it would have cost about $107 with the AAA discount. The Hotel has a spacious parking garage, but it is a little narrow to get in to, and one needs to take an elevator to the casino, then haul your luggage to another elevator in order to get to your hotel room (not the most convenient). The room was very nice with 2 beds and complimentary coffee. The deli was reasonable. The best cafeteria in town is at the Lodge (in Black Hawk). It cost $15 each, or is free (one time) with a new Lodge card if 50 or 100 points is put on the same day. To reach other casinos (Central City/Black Hawk), one needs to drive (there is lots of free parking in town) or take the shuttle.

This was our first time staying in the Blackhawk area and we had limited choices but the price at Fortune Valley was the lowest we could find short of driving back to Denver. The hotel room was a very nice surprise. Clean, nice comfy beds, and they had balloons waiting for my hubby's bday and I hadn't even mentioned it.

Some negatives: small bathroom w/ bad water pressure in the shower and the front desk did not inform us that they were authorizing over and above $79 (by $50) for the room even though we turned down opening the mini bar which caused our charge card to go into the negative (should have paid cash at check in like I do in Vegas to escape from the hold for incidentals) and became more of a financial burden

Overall, we were very pleased. I was worried b/c of the other reviews, but it was worth $79 to stay and play. Hopefully next time I will get it even cheaper. We'll be returning soon.

I can't say it enough---STAY AWAY!!! We booked 3 nights off an internet special in this facility through a phone call to their reservations number listed on the website. We got the 3 nights for 2 deal but when it came time to check out, they didn't have that on our bill. The hotel MANAGER tried to tell us the special was never available in the first place (bait and switch of an advertised special=fraud!), then proceeded to call my husband a LIAR when we inquired about the mixup.

Amazingly bad management, marginal staffing levels in this facility (One waitress to cover an entire casino floor AND work the bar) You'll wait 2 hours to get cocktail service. Also, you can be playing a video poker machine at the bar with 20 bucks in there and they'll STILL charge you for a beer...CHEAP.

Go down to Blackhawk to Isle of Capris and Colorado Central Station where the service is high, the comps plentiful and they don't have rude management that could care less about negative word of mouth.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the Fortune Valley Hotel on a Thursday night. When we arrived the lady at the front desk informed us that we should become an Ultimate card member. By doing so we received a great hotel rate of $49.00 as well as a $10. voucher. The room was spacious and very clean. I definately will return to stay at the hotel. The slots were great fun also. We actually won for a change. The buffet, I would pass. Food just wasn't hot enough. Not a great varity of items.

We had the pleasure of staying at the Fortune Valley Hotel and what a pleasure it was. The rooms are large and very clean! The staff went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and even brought extra item when we called housekeeping. We would give this hotel our highest rating both for price and service.
