“Pleasantly surprised!”
Reviewed 14 July 2009

We were looking for the type of motel that I grew up with on family vacations...room, kitchenette, pool. This was it, but I was pleasantly surprised! We stayed in the King sized room with kitchen, and it was elegantly decorated. No cheezy bedspread or wall hangings. There were even throw pillows on the bed. It was clean and smelled great. We had a covered area for our car right next to the door. The pool was very clean and nicely kept, with towels available for guests to use at the pool. Nice chairs and umbrellas, too. The lobby is also elegantly decorated and they play classical music, which is relaxing. This is where the computer is located. It is high-speed and in a nice location with a clutter-free desk and comfy chair. There is a large breakfast room with a nice continental breakfast available--pastries, toast, bagels, cereal, juice, milk, coffee, tea, cappuccino. Great location between Old Colorado City and Manitou Springs with a wonderful Mexican restaurant close by. Owners were friendly and replaced a lightbulb immediately when were brought it to their attention. We'll be back!

After looking through VRBO.com for hours, we decided that this was the best place to stage a 25 member family reunion. We arrived at different times and left at different times. For the most part we were all together in the same section of the motel with nice proximity. The surrounding attractions are very close and provide a great opportunity for all types of entertainment. We did mountain climbing, rafting, horseback riding, sightseeing, professional soccer in Denver, Drove up to Fairplay and climbed 3 14ers and drove up Pike's Peak. We got to use the large breakfast room in the evenings and the outdoor double gazebo for our family picnic on the 4th of July. They are just like the pictures. We used the charcoal grill to cook our bratz and burgers.
The owners were patient with us and very helpful.
The buildings are old but not run down. It is clean. The rooms have been refurbished inside but some of the dead bolt locks don't work. Not every air conditioner worked. You are almost in Manitou Springs and that was nice for those attractions.

First, let me start by saying that there are not a lot a great lodging options in the Manitou Springs area. Manitou Springs is the closest town to all the main attractions in the area, such as Pikes Peak, the Garden of the Gods, and the Cave of the Winds. It is worthwhile to be close to these attractions, but there is not a nice hotel in this area.

The Rainbow Motel was a quaint, little property and the owners were very nice. Our room was one of the cabins so it faced the pool. It was nice to have the pool right outside our door and it was nice to have two bedrooms connected by a hallway. We typically try to stay in a Homewood Suites, Drury Inn, or some property that has a separate living area with a sofa sleeper for our kids. The Rainbow Motel has some rooms that give you this extra space, but it is by no means up to the standards of the large chain properties. Our towels were dirty and the room smelled. It wasn't bad, but there was definitely an odor there. However, given the lack of other available options close to the main attractions in Manitou Springs, this is a reasonable choice. If you go in without great expectations, you will not be disappointed. However, if you are expecting anything other than a basic motel, then this may not be the place for you.

Based on the reviews I read here, I had very high expectations for the Rainbow Motel (they call themselves a lodge, but that is only if you have delusions of grandeur, this is a motel) I have very conflicting feelings about this motel. In some ways it was wonderful. We got a room that had been renovated this past winter, so it was wonderful. It was spacious, had a comfortable bed with lovely linens, nice furniture, a new kitchen and bathroom. The internet connection during the 5 days we were there was wonderful - the fastest speed we have ever had at a motel. The owners were very friendly and helpful, the pool was heated and had pool noodles and beach balls that you could use. So all that was great. The downside to this motel is that it is a mom and pop business and they just don't seem to have enough help. Our garbage was emptied and the towels changed each day, but the bed was only made once during our stay. Despite the hotel being full each day, there was no one present to replenish the food and drinks at breakfast. Things like juice and milk were not in machines, but in small jugs, so they needed to be refilled constantly. You either had to go without or go looking for someone to get you more. With a place as busy as the Rainbow Motel, someone should have been there all the time to keep things refilled. There was a choice of either kiddie cereal or raisin bran. For a place that specializes in extended stays, there should have been more selection. There was only white bread. Having whole wheat bread available would not be an extra cost. Don't get me wrong, I really did enjoy our stay at this motel, but to be honest, I am not sure that I would be eager to return. It just seemed that there was too much work for the couple owning the place and they were cutting corners where ever they could. On the other hand, they gave us a 10 percent discount for our 5 night stay and the rates were reasonable. So I would say, go ahead and stay there, but just don't have expectations that are too high and you won't be disappointed. The breakfast room was a constant frustration, which could so easily have been corrected.

We booked this motel for a family reunion and it couldn't have been better. The location was ideal being minutes from many of the sites. The motel is older but very clean and the beds were comfortable. There was a wide selection of room configurations to choose from, some with kitchens but all with at least a mini-frig and microwave. The motel had 2 areas for large family gatherings: an outdoor BBQ/covered pavillon area and an indoor dining area. We were able to reserve these areas at night for our family dinners. The couple who own and run the place are very welcoming and helpful. Our family gave this place a thumbs up!

The Rainbow Inn is in a wonderful location between Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs. We were within 5 minutes of all the attractions. It was very clean and a wonderful pool for the kids. Very clean pool they covered nightly. It was nice to be close to the mountains.
It is an older motel, but clean. If you need to be catered to, this is probably not the place for you. I wish we could have stayed in a cottage right by the pool, but they were all booked.
The high speed wireless internet access was extremely slow. Sometimes no connection available. There were also no outlets in the bathrooms or near a mirror at all. Maybe the other rooms are better. Our bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was cereal, danishes, bagels, and toast. They also have a hot chocolate machine / cappacino machine and OJ.

We stayed at the Rainbow Lodge and Inn during our family vacation to Colorado. I just loved this place. The rooms are very, very clean and each room is individually decorated. They are not brand new rooms but the owners have done a wonderful job maintaining the property and keeping up the rooms. My kids loved the swimming pool (very clean pool) and there were toys for them to play with in the pool. They offered a continental breakfast which consisted of hot/cold cereals, bagels, toast, danishes and fresh orange juice. They even had a cappuccino/hot chocolate machine. The mornings were beautiful and there were benches outside of each room to sit on and take in the morning air. They had an outdoor pavilion which we sat under while eating our pizza. They also have barbeque grills and picnic benches. Our friends stayed in one of the cottages right next to the pool which offered plenty of room for two adults and their children. During our stay at this lodge, I met a couple of different families who come back every summer and this is where they stay (I can see why). We would definitely stay here again. This is also the perfect starting point since it is in between Old Colorado City and Manitou Springs.

  • Liked — The cleanliness of the property and the owners who went out of their way to accomodate their customers.
  • Disliked — The entrance-exit onto the property.
  • Tips/Secrets — There are refrigerators/microwaves in each room, you can request irons, ironing boards, hairdryers etc.. from the front desk. Also, the suites are very charming as are the cottages.
