“we will not go back, unless bathroom is renovated”
Reviewed 29 July 2011

I have to say that the cottages are nicely displayed and look clean, apparently. However, I believe that the bathrooms need a good renovation. We stayed in a two-bedroom cottage and had to stay out most of the time because of the smelly bathroom. The smell clearly disturbed our enjoyment of the place. We just could not wait to leave and did not even enjoyed cooking in the kitchen because of the smelly bathroom. This place could be a nice place once some major renovations are done. Will not stay there again.

I just stayed at the Timber Lodge last week for a summer vacation. We had orignally planned to stay for numerous nights, but we left after one night due to the following... I was extremely disspaointed upon my arrival. When I booked the cabin over the phone I was told I was getting a cabin with a "secluded creekside view". This campground is located on a high traffic road surrounded by many businesses and motels, it is not secluded at all. Our "creekside view" was actaully the parking lot to a busy restaurant. I was also concerned about the cleanliness of our cabin. There were dead bugs everywhere and the air coming from the air conditioner smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. The only positive thing I can say is the that the staff was very polite and friendly.

We returned to the Timber Lodge because of a good experience several years ago, and found it was as charming and as good a value as before.

Finding comfortable lodging for a group of six teens and adults at a price that won't break the bank is a great challenge. The folks at the Timber Lodge are up to that challenge.

We rented their biggest cottage, a two bedroom, two bathroom affair with ample space in the living area for two more to sleep. This particular cabin features a kitchette (see photo), which enabled us to economize further.

Cabins vary considerably in size, from an A-frame that accommodates only two, to a couple of bigger units suitable for family gatherings and vacations (like ours)!

The accommodations are rustic but fairly comfortable. I enjoy camping but my wife doesn't. This is as close to "roughing it" as she will get. The beds are comfortable enough, but certainly not comparable to an upscale hotel.

Rooms are cooled by evaporative coolers. Our cabin had a rancid smell the first night. We mentioned it to a caretaker, who emptied the garbage from a container outside the cottage. That cured our problem.

Satellite (or cable...I'm not sure which) television was available in our cabin...I don't recall television from our earlier visit. Our kids and young adults enjoyed the heated pool. Picnic tables and charcoal grill adorn the common park area.

We recommend lodging here, especially for anyone with a "rustic" streak in them. Just be aware that despite appearances, the Timber Lodge is situated between two major thoroughfares, and it can be a little noisy outside of the cabins. However, this location provides convenient access to many area attractions, including the Garden of the Gods, Old Colorado City, Manitou Springs, the cog railway, Flying W Ranch, and Colorado Springs proper.

We had a pleasant stay here.
We stayed in a duplex cabin with a covered porch. The cabin was very clean. It had two full beds, a kitchenette, table with 4 chairs and bathroom with a tub and shower. No hair dryer or shampoo is provided. There is a coffee maker but no coffee. Coffee is available outside of the office in the morning.

The beds were not the most comfortable but we all had a pretty good nights rest.
The kitchenette has dishes which they ask you to wash if you use them. Just be sure and wash them before you use them, I noticed lip marks on the glasses when I pulled them out of the cupboard.

There is a creek which runs in front of the property. Kids were walking around in the creek which looked fun.

The property is nice. Our cabin was on the side end and it looked on to the pool. This end seemed sort of messy. There were outside tables and grills by the pool.
We saw a deer walking through.

The pool was not open yet so we were not able to use it. There is a small playground for kids. A fairly large area with tables.

The only negatives would be. The highway runs right next to this property. You cannot see it but you do hear it.
One of us was having some stomach problems so we were worried about having enough toilet paper. It was about 9:00PM and we went to the office which closes at 8PM. The office has a sign to ring bell if urgent, we did and no one answered the bell. We ended up going to the grocery store for extra TP just in case.
I would say after 8:00PM you are on your own.

There is a Mexican Restaurant on the other side of the creek. We didn't eat there but their patio looks awesome. They have torches going at night and music. Next time we will eat there.

I would definetly stay here again.
