On a recent trip to Colorado Springs, two couples had the opportunity to visit The Famous Steakhouse. The atmosphere is casual and our meal was not rushed at all. We were there on a Monday night and that may have played a part in the casual atmosphere.

The menu covers appetizers, soup and salad, signature steaks, seafood, chops/chicken, and sides. What is unusual is that the sides are served family style. They include mashed potatoes, hash browns, creamed spinach, skinny onion rings, string green beans with bacon, baby spinach sautéed with garlic & red chili flakes and of course the baked potato and the loaded baked potato.

Their steaks include filet mignon, New York Strip, Ribeye, and the flatiron. They range from 10-oz to 22-oz. The seafood selection consists of organic salmon fillet, Ahi Tuna steak, Fresh wild open sea bass and Maine Lobster tail. (One of the inside secrets is The Famous has no freezers, thus everything is fresh.
Three of us ordered the filet mignon and they were each cooked to our requested specification. They were, as expected, tender to cut and eat. Along with the baked potato, it’s quiet a meal. The fourth in our party order the Salmon fillet which arrived tender and hot. We also ordered the baby spinach sautéed with garlic & red chili flakes.

Our waiter was easy to work with, kept our water glasses filled without prompting. All in all it was a very enjoyable meal.

If you plan to have dessert, you may want to look at that menu first to gauge how large an entrée you are going to order or if you plan to use a “doggie bag” to carry the uneaten portion home.

If you are in the Colorado Springs area and are seeking a very good meal for a special occasion or just for pleasure, you can’t go wrong with The Famous Steakhouse.

Hosted Air Force Academy graduate dinner. Traditional steak house ambiance and wide variety of steaks. Service was very good and all dishes were well prepared--a good time was had by all.

This unassuming place on the corner of the block with dark windows could have easily been a bar until you step inside. Live piano playing Billy Joel etc was really great. Leather Chesterfield Booths and quite noisy for a classy food restaurant. The food is exquisite. Med rare Fillet and Lobster Tail with drawn butter and served with lemon. WOW! Pricey but so worth it. Wine list very good but mostly VSOP cognac rather than XO +.

Our overall experience was very pleasant. We food was prepared to exactly to our request and for the most part, excellent. The only disappointment in our dining experience was the lobster that came with the surf and turf was not very good. We ordered filets, and lamb. They could not have been better.

From our reservation, walking in the door, being served and then leaving, the staff was professional and made us feel welcomed. The night we were there, the piano player was spot on with his choice of music.

I did not feel the price was out of line. Dinner for three that included a bottle of wine, appetizers, salads, two sides (family style) and desert was $300.

Great food, the special Surf and Turf includes and excellent steak, lobster, salad and dessert, and saves a bunch. Outstanding food, and most nights the piano artist really kicks up the ambiance. One of or new favorites. The appetizer menu is heavily loaded with seafood, not our favorite, though. A few more non-seafood items would be most appreciated, and would increase the likelihood of dropping in for drinks and appetizers on nights when dinner is too much.
