We took the two-hour ride and it was great. The slow trail ride through the Garden of the Gods couldn't have been better. The guides were very good and the horses were excellent. I was amazed how well the horses navigated the steep terrain…if was well worth the price of admission and you got to see parts of the Garden of the Gods that you could not see if you drove through the park in a car.

The 2 hour tour of Garden of the Gods through Academy Riding Stables was a highlight of our trip in Colorado Springs. The wranglers at the stables clearly know and love the horses and take care to match your horse to your riding level. My kids, who are occasional riders, got gentle but responsive mounts as did I. Our tour guide Courtney was friendly and knowledgeable and the tour of the park is breathtaking! I would highly recommend this tour to any equestrian-loving family.

So you've decided to vacation in Colorado Springs to delight in nature's beauty, see things that you don't have where you live now or ever lived, relax from whatever troubles you, and have some fun. All of these were accomplished in my 2 hour ride through the Garden of the Gods. From booking my reservation with Brooke, to check-in, legal and safety brief, the great ride with Asia, and even the gift shop with Sarah, Academy Riding Stable staff was professional, courteous, and engaging. They truly care that you have a great experience. My SO and I were fortunate in that we selected the first ride of the day and comprised the total group. Our guide, Asia and the other wranglers selected two good mannered and experienced horses, Lady and DeeDee for two inexperienced riders. The ride itself was spectacular. Words alone cannot describe the beauty and vistas you behold on the ride through the park - on one side the rock structures and on the other Pike's Peak. Hint: the quicker you get comfortable atop your horse and learn control the more time you have to look around and enjoy. Asia was a superb guide. She was warm and engaging. She gets it - she realized that we were looking for a special experience as there are so many choices of attractions in the area - and she delivered with her enthusiasm and knowledge of the COS and GOTG. The ride was two hours of relaxation and beauty. You will encounter hikers on the same trails as you (as others on this site have commented) but the looks in their eyes seeing you on horseback confirms that you made a good choice. Following the ride we drove around GOTG then parked and walked all around the Central Gardens. It took half a day but well worth it. And it all began with a tremendous experience provided by the staff and horses of Academy Riding Stables. The park is free, the ride is not but the total package is well worth the money.

Academy Riding Stables offers a unique, fun experience, and I was so glad that I insisted on trying it! Unfortunately, their website isn't that great, which can be off putting. The price of the two hour ride that I went on was $71, and it was completely worth it. We had Rachel and Carrie for our guides, and they were a hoot! I also like that when they share details about the history of the Garden of the Gods and its rock formations, they say it twice, so that people riding in the rear of the party will be able to hear just as clearly as those in the front. The real finale of the ride comes near the end, when your horse essentially rock climb their way up one of the hills. You wont believe what those horses can do!

This riding stable rents out their horses as part of a guided tour for an hour or more through the Garden of the Gods.

Each rider is matched up with a horse by experience, size and temperament. Then you are given a brief set of instructions on horse handling and trail etiquette before you are matched with your horse.

Once on your horse, you follow a guide in a group of about 10-12 horses through a side street and into the Garden of the Gods. The guide then takes you on a detailed guided tour of the park, narrating the different features as he goes along.

We learned a lot of park folklore and history from our guide Marlin. He was a good leader. He pointed out many features of the park, while tending to the riders and their horses. It was a very pleasant and memorable experience. I would recommend it to anyone who is touring in Colorado Springs or for residents who want to have a horseback riding venture in the Garden of the Gods park.

One piece of advice: if you are a nervous rider, your horse will sense this and may act up. One woman in our tour group was timid about handing her horse and it got out of line a few times and disrupted the group. Our handlers were good and able to give her and her horse the extra support and direction they needed. Be prepared. Wear appropriate clothing.
