“Fabulous Inn”
Reviewed 31 December 2009

This review is long overdue but we had a fabulous stay at this inn. Don cooked up a mean breakfast each morning and always had great tips on stuff to do. The evening wine hour was a great way to meet other guests and get some more great tips. Don and Shirley are great hosts, they make you feel very welcome while at the same time still giving you plenty of space. The rooms were beautiful and we really enjoyed the hot tub on the deck. The inn was also in an excellent location within walking distance to many shops and restaurants.

The owners are hard working and on site to make sure all runs smoothly. Rather you want a get-a-way or a hide-a-way this destination is charming, well located, with tasty food and snacks. The rooms are all unique and lovely. Plenty of good advise is available from Don and Shirley and their staff. We loved our 4 days-

Our Harley Group took a ride up to Colorado from Allen, Texas and stayed two nights in Old Town GuestHouse. My wife and I had stayed there about 3 other times and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Our Harley buds were surprised and very pleased with my choice.

We were greeted by Shirley and Don Wick, the owners and Innkeepers who are just SUPER HOSTS. We were all checked in quickly, had a tour of the rooms and got settled in then adjourned to the dining room where we had a great reception of wine, beer and cheese. Afterward we strolled up the block to Colorado Blvd. where there were an abundance of good restaurants and bars. What fun we had including the hot tubs on all four of our private patios (3 of which face Pikes Peak and the 4th faces the foot hills.)

There is ample parking OFF the street, very nice rooms, excellent location and a gourmet breakfast every morning.

We used this as our base for some great touring including Garden of the Gods, Royal Gorge and an outstanding ride to Cripple Creek.

If you want a first class B & B, in a great location, the Old Town GuestHouse is for you.

This place may spoil you for any future trips. Don and Shirley are perfect hosts and take great pride in their craft. They have obviously paid great attention to the needs, wants and concerns of their guests over the years. This has resulted in an environment where almost everything is anticipated; your needs are met before you know you have them. The attention to detail is stunning. Breakfasts are wonderful! Everything is homemade and delicious! Each room is unique. We stayed in the Oriental Poppy. The room had a fireplace and 2 person hot tub on the deck. The first day it snowed - we sat in the hot tub watching the snow fall on Pikes Peak - unforgetable!. The staff are friendly, helpful and very efficient. The nightly turn down service included designer chocolates, next day weather, and a romantic ambience to the room when we returned for the night. They really focus on the little things that make your trip just that much more special. There is a large selection of DVD's for you to watch in your room, if you choose. If you want to curl up with a good book their selection is awesome. Their knowledge of the restaurants and unusual "things to see in the area" enhanced our experience. The main rooms were wonderfully decorated for the season. Happy hour gave us the chance to share our experiences with other guests. This is what the Bed and Breakfast experience should be, and then some. I know all of our future trips will be compared to this one, and it's going to be tough to meet this benchmark.

My wife and I spent three nights at this B&B. It is a gem and we would certainly return. It is located in the Old Town section which is four blocks of shops, restaurants and art galleries.

We were in the Columbine room which had a king waterbed. As a college student in the late 1960s, I recall waterbeds as something that feels like you are sleeping on a boat. This is nothing like that. It seemed to mold to our bodies and we felt like 20 somethings again on our honeymoon. Not a bad way to start out a night of rest.

The room was immaculate and I can't think of anything it did not have. At night we were visited with turn down service and chocolates. There is a steam shower but we never used the steam so I can't comment on it.

The breakfasts were just the right size for us, juice, some fruit, a breakfast cake, an egg dish and sausage. The portions were not too big, not too small, just right.

Don and Shirley are the hosts. We regret that we did not get to know Shirley as well as Don; he seemed to do the work of several people. He was there serving breakfast, giving us directions, getting us reservations and offering us opinions on how to spend our time. His suggestions were well thought out even to the point of suggesting we visit the Air Force Academy after we left Colorado Springs since it would save us time as we drove to Denver to fly home.

Shirley was not absent either. One night when I had computer problems, she sat with me trying to figure things out.

I would call this establishment a hybrid, more than a B&B and not quite a hotel. With only eight rooms, that is quite a tall order and this location fills the role beautifully.

If you are looking for a little luxury in Colorado Springs and don't want the expense of the Broadmoor, I would suggest the Old Town Guest House.

The owners of this b&b have included many touches that appeal to their guests. The bedrooms are charming and individual in style, the breakfasts are wonderful, the late afternoon happy hour left us in a happy mood, and the owners go out of their way to make everyone feel at home. Even the dog is very well behaved!

My wife and I had the great pleasure of spending two nights at this wonderful establishment in early July. These were the final two nights of our vacation, and we just wanted to chill after LONG days of driving (my bad for biting off a little more than I could chew) and some pretty serious hiking at RMNP (well, "serious" for a couple of "older" folks...).

We could not have asked for more. First, location: Smack dab in the middle of "Old Colorado City", the wonderful and quiet strip between Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs. It's a short hop to all the neat things to do in the area (PIkes Peak, Garden of the Gods, etc.). We were also within steps of some very nice restaurants and shops (unfortunately most of the latter closed up around 5:00 p.m., just "why", in mid-summer, is a mystery, even to our hosts). We enjoyed just wandering around the neighborhood.

Next, the accomodations: We stayed in the Moroccan Room (I think that's the name), which is one of the smaller rooms but which was more than sufficient for us. It's a wonderful room, with a veranda overlooking the front of the building and a nice, large bathroom with TWIN SINKS (yay!!!). The steam shower was just what my aching muscles needed. And a water bed--a WATER BED!--so comfortable that it was really difficult to drag myself out in the morning.

Next, the breakfasts: Don whipped up two wonderful meals for us. They were not only delicious but SO thoughtfully prepared: satisfying but healthy and in perfect proportions. We also enjoyed the wine and snacks in the late afternoon--a very nice touch!

Last, but certainly not least, the people: While we didn't get to meet Shirley until just after breakfast on the day of our departure (we joked with Don about whether there really WAS a "Shirley"!), she and Don are the epitome of the perfect hosts: warm, engaging and super-friendly without being obtrusive. Don is thoroughly versed in the history of the area and we learned so much from him. And I can't finish these comments without some well-earned kudos for the staff, especially Kim who went FAR out of her way to make us feel at home.

Needless to say, if we are ever even CLOSE to Colorado Springs again, OTGH will be at the top of our list. Thanks to Don and Shirley for a memorable expetience!
