“Great friendly Pub.”
Reviewed 5 September 2013

This Yorkshire pub was very welcoming and with great service. I said it was "one of the best meals" because of the welcoming attitude and service. The meal itself, was very large & wholesome and tasty, though over zealous with the cream on the banana spilt. I asked the barman to suggest a local beer so he poured the 4 different beers on tap for me to try. I went for the "Old Peculiar". This Pub is worth a try.

“A classic village local!”
Reviewed 14 July 2013

The Old Black Bull is a delightful traditional village local comprising an original drinking bar and a separate dining room. It offers 3 changing hand-pulled beers, all extremely well kept and a comprehensive food menu ranging from snacks to full mains. We were able to make use of the outdoor seating area at the front due to the warm weather and were delighted with our choice of lunchtime snacks - tempura prawns and chicken wings.

The landlord is a really friendly guy, happy to talk about the pub and the beers on offer.

Well recommended - a great relief from the clinical "gastro" pubs often found in small villages where you are frowned upon if only wanting a drink!

“A little gem of a place!”
Reviewed 28 May 2013 via mobile

Stayed here as I was judging at the Hambleton Show. First class accommodation in huge rooms at the back of the pub. Spotlessly clean and a big comfy bed. Had dinner in the pub and was given the choice of eating in the bar or the reataurant. Glad I chose the bar as the atmosphere was wonderful. The locals were very entertaining!! Fabulous homecooked food with 'proper' chips. Huge portions too. Breakfast was very early for the poor chef.....sorry! A great range of hot and cold food. I didn't need to eat again until mid afternoon! All in all, a real gem of a place I will certainly return to.
